My point is ... Who is george to dictate what we say or how we say it???????? This is not his forum!!!
My forum is online 2moro and will have a very laid back friendly way with no insults at how people talk, speak. Just as it should be!

While acknowledging that English evolves. it seems to be in freefall at moment. Even people who are paid to speak it properly seem unable to do so. I suspect George would join me in a wince when the news reader on BBC1 referred to "Court Martials".
My own personal gripe is apostrophe abuse. [RANT] They do not denote plurals. [/RANT] Seen on a large property maintenance chain van recently - "Electrician's"
I do like good use of the English language, but sometimes just a subtle variation on it seems to give someone a bit of personality, for example, Pauly's tendency to leave the last g of participles, but if I recall correctly he does use an apostrophe to denote a missing letter.

I personally believe Cloudhunter was out of line when he began contributing to this thread, and continues to have a very negative effect on the proceedings.
George can go straight to the point with his posts and say exactly what he thinks. This is not to be confused with being disrespectful and rude, and he stated his case eloquently and carefully, and in no way deserved Cloudhunters backlash.
Cloudhunter has essentially regressed some of us to playground arguing, and it's pathetic.
If (Cloudhunter) you cannot say anything constructive other than cheap parting shots (which is what they sound like) and playing this 'trump card' about your new forum you have built, then please go elswhere!
I am worried that the existence of this thread is putting off newcomers to the forum, as it has become quite hostile in places.
Let's be respectful of each other please.

Twice now I have tried to reply to Snappycaz's post and twice I have pressed post comment and been logged out and it hasn't posted! Sorry Caz but I am not trying again.
I haven't commented on anything Cloudhunter has said so far but his last post were he has typed in a sentance with the letters all mixed up (I can't quote it as it is not available) to me is just taking the Michael, trying to be clever and for me insulting and that is a first on here for me. I am aware that the brain does not need to see the whole word in order to recognise it thank you. He also seems to be implying that just because we would like people to at least try and use English correctly when it is their first language and they don't have any other language difficulties that we are being snobbish and looking down on people. What exactly is wrong in defending the correct use of the English language by mother tongue English speakers? I appreciate that we cannot tell people how they should or should not write their posts however, I personally find using text speak in communication other than text very irrating and will be less inclined to respond or join in debates with the person using it. I agree with everything in this post,i cannot see why there is such a commotion about spelling,grammar etc.An interest in photography is the reason people come to this forum.Keith

After more than a month away, a wedding, a honeymoon, and a car crash, I am very happy to give a little contribution to this forum once again.
- George, well said, thank you for your initial post with which I completely agree, being often judged as a grumpy/arrogant/rude character myself.
- The use of proper written english is, in my opinion, absolutely essential for the survival of culture, and means like this forum, are (and should be) essential tools for the educational endeavour that we ALL should pursue, in teaching young and old to write in proper english. I am a foreigner, and I have spent years learning english, english grammar, spelling, and sintax.
I suffer every time I have to correct the english of one of the young adults I work with; their level of english is terribly poor, and although this is becoming common in modern society, it is still not excusable. As much as anyone is allowed to write as they wish, we should all try our best to educate our fellow forum members into the use of proper english. It is not a matter of dictatorship or rules, it is a matter of culture.
- I also have a personal opinion regarding the 'powers that be' in this forum, and have often disagreed and argued for my and other people's causes. I do believe there should be a rather more democratic approach to the management of the forum, but I also understand that most of the times the moderators are only trying their best, and any mistake is not the result of viciousness, but rather a naive attempt at solving a problem.
- There will always be idiots around. It is harder and harder to discern them from the rest of society.

To be honest I am unable to read sms speak when used in texts, so cannot be bothered to try and decode it when used on something like a forum.
Also prefer when a long message is laid out in paragraphs, just makes it easier to read.
Spelling mistakes are another thing all together, especially when some schools used the phonetic method of learning.
Certainly wouldn't complain about the odd misspelt word here and there, would hate to miss out on an interesting or informative thread.
Only today had to convince a few colleagues that the word uncompleted did not exist, bit different as that was to be included in an official document
