Dog House

I'm well and truly in it. Came home tonight after having my ebay Samsung GX10 delivered to work, and had to fess up my purchase.

I hadn't mentioned my intention to foray into the DSLR world to the current Mrs Phill, it came as a bit of a surprise to say the least what I spent.

She has no idea at all about cameras and doesn't understand why I've spend over 200 quid when I have a perfectly working little canon compact; "it takes pictures doesn't it!"

Unfortunatly, the camera took longer than expected to arrive and I was a little too keen to get my hands on it, I spent my frustration looking on ebay at some lenses....

Needless to say my purchases of a 50mm SMC Pentax A and a 80-210 Tamron will be staying at work.

Still need to get a tripod too...

I see a future with very sore testicles...

Anyway, I'm dead chuffed with the camera, even though I'm not too sure how to use it. I'm hoping that I'll still be loving it long after the pain of buying it subsides.

My dog's house has wall to wall carpet, insulation, power... we'll be adding a big screen flat panel tv and airconditioning this summer.... what the hell, if I'm gonna spend alot of time there, might as well make it comfortable...

It won't be the sore body parts I would be worried about, it is the quid pro quo that Mrs Phil will be extracting from you at a time to be be determined at her pleasure. At such a time she will painfully remind you of this purchase and the circumstance of the revelation of it.

I am sure that will go over real well with Mrs Phill, especially when she goes to use it in a way it was never intended to be used.

Funny thing is, it IS her birthday next month and she said "That better not be for my bloody birthday"

Well, then you have two options as I see it, get real creative and WOW her with your birthday present OR go back to ebay and get her a camera in hopes that she will find photography as a new found passion. Personally, I think you would get out of the dog house and further with option 1.

You better get busy fast man!

I'm pretty sure my wife looks on it as money well spent as it means I'm out a lot more.

mine chose to forget last night that I've been saying for the last three weeks that I need to be at another track day on Sunday. .

I bet when she see's the improvement in your photography all will be forgiven, even to the point of "why are you taking that little camera to Cousin Mable's wedding, take the good one instead"

Get some intensive practice and take good picture of her to frame and offer for her birthday. Then say your her inspiration.
If that doesn't work go with her guilty pleasure, everyone has one. Off course that means your photo hobby will become much more expensive
Or take her to spa/massage thingy for both. Then you can thank her for being so understanding about you hobby (regardless). If that doesn't work... Get a couch for that dog house.

I'm afraid to say that Lloydy's right - SHOES!!
When it comes to a pair of shoes the wife can spend about the same as a camera body without even blinking!
If you encourage her to buy a nice pair of christian Laboutins then you can store up the balance and use the spare points at a later date.
I'm lucky - the wife buys loads so my virtual points balance is quite good!

I really think you are going to have to be more creative than shoes in this case. It definitely is a gamble that may find you losing. Not her color, not her style, not a lot of things. Get her something she has really wanted, and that should smooth the feathers down quite a bit.
