I'm absolutely certain that re-submitting is unfair to the other entrants. The motive for replacing an entry doesn't matter - once the die is cast that should be it. You read the brief for the competition, you give it your best shot and that's it. The judge only gets involved after the deadline.
This has worked well for the past 150+ competitions and worked well without having to change this basic premise. It's obvious from the feedback that deviating from that causes problems, so let's just keep it fair and square for all.
I'm not advocating for change but want some things explained and I'm just wondering why re-submitting is unfair with the way these comps are run here.I'm absolutely certain that re-submitting is unfair to the other entrants. When you re-submit something you ain't gaining any advantage as of someone who is entering late and therefore I don't so it as unfair.
I've yet to hear a reason why it absolutely certainly is unfair
About the judging, there aren't any guide lines on how that should be done also there isn't written anywhere that a judge can not visit the discussion thread.
About the resubmitting when the photo is not al right it's in the guide lines that an entry can be deleted and you can re-enter again, or do I read that wrongly? link

Stefan you are advocating change as you want to allow resubmissions.
You seem to be in a minority of one so I would suggest you drop it and move on to the next competition

Just to be clear, and I will change the wording later, the intention was that if someone in the forum (original) version of the competition put in an image say 1000 pixels wide it would be deleted, but they would be welcome to correct the size and submit it again.
There was never any intention that entrants would post different images as the competition went on.
I can assure you Stefan that would lead to chaos and isn't allowed under the general competition rules. People have to know where they stand. Otherwise, if I set a competition, who's to say I couldn't drop you a PM and suggest there was a better photo for the competition that you'd posted last week elsewhere, why don't you change it for that one?
You wouldn't get very far sending a picture to a magazine competition and then sending another one asking for it to be subsitituted. "No communication can be entered into" is the answer you would get, if you got one at all.

Mike I was saying that things now are unfair and I stated the reasons why and two option to make it fairer. And in the same comment I said things must just stay the same since it's all just for fun.
Thank you for the explanation John.
In your case it would indeed be unfair but that's because how the Judge acted and not the act of resubmitting. I mean even Doug re-submit 10 minutes later in the last comp because he had a better version of his photo processed in Gimp, that's the sort of thing I mean. I don't see why that can be unfair?
The chaos is only temporary because when the competition close everything is final.
And it's only a chaos for someone if they don't know what's going on.
About the magazine comp, that's so different then the ones we do for fun here on the forum. If we start to compare that then a lot more need to be changed here and nobody would want that.

Stefan you can indeed say it's unfair but you are wrong.
So resubmit within 10 minutes is OK? how about 11, or 12 or 23 minutes? Where do you draw the line and wherever it is drawn you can argue it is unfair.

I think it's only unfair if you get an advantage when you re-submit but here on this forum it isn't the case.
Remember this comment.

I would agree with this one but not with the comps here because the ones entering late have the same advantage so what's there unfair about? The idea is to avoid people resubmitting images having seen what others have done.

I'm always one for discretion in such circumstances. Let the rule remain, but allow the judge to use his discretion if someone makes a mistake and has to reupload a shot within a short time because they uploaded the wrong one etc. I'm sure this happens all the time without anyone really noticing.Stefan you can indeed say it's unfair but you are wrong.

It's a 'fun' competition after all. It needs rules but lets not get too serious about it.
