Funny you should mention that, I was looking up methods to produce duotones in Aperture (I try and avoid exporting to Photoshop if possible due to the 50MB tiff) and came across this thread.

Someone asked about how to produce a dutotone in Aperture and the response was an encyclopedia entry on premixed spot ink, linear RGB colourspace, and other arcana. The OP was understandably quite confused

I just had a look at the site and see that there is a 'duotone' comp,...except that most people have entered monotones!......

.........??
It's already being dealt with, have send multiple notes yesterday.

I understand completely what Stefan is looking for BUT, duotone in printing terms means two ink colours in addition to the paper colour. Usually this means black and grey on white paper resulting in a richer 'monochrome' image. Most quality B+W photograpy books are printed using this process.

As in many things Photoshop's terminology is borrowed from earlier technologies and doesn't always mean precisely the same thing.
Yes I agree with that but to push the comp away from the standard B&W duotone I've said this.

Quote:
Under duotone I understand the use of two colours besides black and white, you can of course use black or white. Something like a sepia tone is also a duotone by my book since it replace the white. If you want you can also use tri,- and quadtones so 3 or 4 colours.
I thought the sentence the use of two colours besides black and white was clear enough but I guess not.
That's why I added a clarification yesterday.

I've allowed the ones who submitted a B&W to re-enter if they want since there was simply a misunderstanding.

Someone said to me once that black & white were not colours. White is the absence of any colour and black is the presence of all colours:

Yeah that's right but I'm already excused for making things more complicated then they are

btw it's actually the other way around, white is all colours and black is non.

Surely you've not overcomplicated something Stefan?

I'm sure you've got a diagram ready to explain it all!
If you can't say something nice about Pentax, you won't say anything at all.

Apparently.

Doug, you only make it more work for me. I'm quite happy there aren't a lot of entries so far since I don't have much time tomorrow.

Stefen, its the same old, same old. We're used to something not going quite right, Last night it was the goaly. We should still come top of the group but the dreams have been curtailed and we're back to earth. You're right, we've not got a group of death. Argentina looked tasty, I'm going to see if I have any Argentinian blood in the family.

The lack of entries might be that some don't know how to make a duotone, others may not use Photoshop or something similar that has the option.

It looks as though a photoshop-based competition won't attract as many entries as one with a purely photographic theme.
Best regards, John

I was tempted to enter a sepia or blue toned picture as the brief seems to specifically state that that is acceptable. But apparently not? Confused.com.
