Varies for me from Industrial (Cubanate, Ministry, Rammstein), through Classic Goth (Sisters of Mercy, Fields of the Nephilim), and Neo-goth (EBM, Darkwave, Dark Trance, etc) like Convenant, VNV Nation, Asseblage 23, Razed in Black etc. Just been spending the day listening to an awesome double disk set "Dark Trance Vs Neo Goth", very nicely mixed.

Add in a sprinkling of New Romantic, Metal, Rock and oddballs like the Insane Clown Posse and The Dust Junkies...

With more than 7000 titles in my home and everything from Open Reel over MD to Turntable and FM tuner, CD and DVD-A, Cassette and DAT; I pretty much listen to all genres...........except Heavy Metal and other head banging music.

And I'm one of those fools enjoying the quality of the music as well as the technical quality of the media and have dedicated room for music with tube amps.

Right now a Duet with Ray Charles and Betty Carter is spinning.

Wow - some great stuff here! I second Rodrigo e Gabriela, they are unique and cut across boundaries, just don't call them flamenco! I've got totally into the internet radio thing and have bookmarks from classical, reggae, indie, rock, esoteric and african etc. Right now my favourite is Pig radio - an Italian station that plays all new music majoring on electronica, but also rock, indie etc. (and the occasional Elvis Presley or Smiths). Highly recommended for those difficult Photoshop moments!

If I have to concentrate then no music at all.

If I'm working I sometimes have a CD on but when the going gets tough the cd stops going.

I rarely have music when PP or taking photographs.

In extremis (like when other bu88er has music on when I'm on site) I can zone it out. Like many people when I concentrate I simply don't hear anything around me.

A test match or parliament live I can sometimes cope with.

Usually I have some music on while doing anything, most often metal (just name it, heavy metal, thrash metal, black metal, death metal, gothic metal etc), industrial, some other (ie Bauhaus, Sonic Youth) I'm not sure how to classify. When I was younger (and not married) I used to listen to music while going sleep too.
You went to sleep listening to Metal?!
Oh, that's easy. You choose quite noisy metal (ie Death, Slayer, etc), play it not too loud (but not too quiet either) and go sleep. Easy. Particularly when tired after a whole day of lectures, labs, etc

I never could sleep or focus on anything listening to classic - I like it from time to time, but it's terribly distracting - sometimes quiet, sometimes loud or very loud. While metal music is rather level, rhytmic and calming Or is it just me?

For the German/European guys here, RAMSTEIN!
I rode to Berlin on my motorbike a few years back to watch em.
I looove Rammstein!!

Only got the one album. Might have to stop listening to it at home now that my daughter is learning German
They're fantastic, both music and shows I'd like to be on their concert with a camera!

And I know the feeling - once my children learned English I had to stop listening to some music in their presence Well, Rammstein is not that bad with most of their songs
Kind regards,

The Alabama 3. Extraordinary. A good introduction is the albums La Peste and Outlaw. The other one has to be the sadly departed Warren Zevon.

Usually rock or metal, AC/DC, Kiss, Lordi , Metallica, Megadeth, etc. Though recently I seem to have rediscovered Iron Maiden, I'd forgotten how good they are

They are brilliant aren't they? I kinda went off them soon after getting into Metallica, but have always had a soft spot for some of their tracks.

I have since gone through a rediscovery of them myself. The Live 'Flight 666' DVD is amazing.

G[/quote]Not the only one, let's just say I have an eclectic (is that the right word? ) taste in music. One minute I'll listen to Doris Day ( still my ideal woman ), another it'll be Rammstein, then in the car we tend to listen to Dean Martin.
