Oh Richard you should worry so much, as for the term background music you're quite right, let's call it inspiration music okay.
And before you go and rant over that it's proven that music stimulates the brain.
Sia Furler was the vocalist of the song I mean and if you like that you would probable like Toby Lightman also.
Joanna Wang is probable also one that you might like, I know the name isn't promising but she can surely sing in English with her lovely voice link
The Seatbelts might also be interesting for you although they have some weird songs sometimes but some are very good, jazz/blues. link link
Oh Miles Davis is also one you need to look up, very nice with some scotch!

Oh yes that's very true and only when you hear it you know it, therefore it's hard to remember the song/artist when you get home, very annoying. It's surprising how much music we forget about.

Lynrd Skynrd never heard of them but it's the good old real rock so I very much like it.
And I also really don't like tv, I simply can't watch anything on it any more. Most of the time it's on discovery or something alone that trend
Wow Matt he's very good
This might interest you although it's on the other side of playing guitar then Rodrigo e Gabriela but it's very good and experimental. Kaki King link she can also play normal guitar although a bit differently link

I'm afraid I get very single minded about my Photoshopping, so no music when processing images for me. Or indeed when on the Internet.
You all have my full attention!

Usually I have some music on while doing anything, most often metal (just name it, heavy metal, thrash metal, black metal, death metal, gothic metal etc), industrial, some other (ie Bauhaus, Sonic Youth) I'm not sure how to classify. When I was younger (and not married) I used to listen to music while going sleep too.
Kind regards,
