On the way home, currently in a hotel outside Langres in France and have the first wi-fi for ages.

Good luck with the insurance claims, they're fun.

Off to have a shower, beer, food, wine and beer.

but maybe not in that order...
Cheers, HG

I had escargot for the first time in Paris this year. I won't go into the full effect they had on me but it does remind me why I never (never, ever, ever) eat molluscs!

I've always considered the first French person who picked up a snail and thought, "I wonder what this tastes like?", to be either a hero/heroine or slightly insane or drunk, or perhaps a mixture of all three

I used to have a racing snail, it wasn't going fast enough so I took its shell off but that just made it even more sluggish

A friend had one of those "Blame Direct" people phone him and ask if he'd had an accident. He told them yes he had fallen down stairs at a neighbours house while carrying a television. They yes he would definitely have a claim so he said great but would the fact he was stealing the tv at the time go against him. they said oh! and hung up

Not even M&Ms - I don't like peanuts.
I will, if forced to, eat some other nuts though it's true. But nothing animate in a shell.
Made the culinary day trip on my son's boat tricky - freshly caught Wadden shrimps to start, cockles and mussels (also from the Wad and freshly caught) for main.
Luckily there was also lamb curry and good bread. Not to mention delicious puddings - which others were too full to eat .
