If it's a 1000cc you want check out the Honda Hornet.

They also do a 650, both off which are well priced and great fun on the open road and in town.
Cheers, HG

If your gonna get a 1000cc then get a Yamaha Vmax - 133BHP on a bike = sit on and hold on tight

I like customs so if I had the money I'd be getting myself a Honda Shadow - Harley looks but without the dogged reliability issues, set of slash cuts and no one would know the difference.

Random I know but check this link out, funny as hell
133 BHP - just wait until you have 65000 HP at your finger tips ...

On 2 wheels that'd be a hell of a motor and I doubt you'd be able to pull off from a stand still
No wheels ! Just a couple of propellers at the rear! And 0-40 in "quite a while" around 4 minutes!

You`re all loopy - IMHO - the only way to travel is a Westfield/Caterham/Lotus 7 - we had a Mk IV 1600 crossflow back in the early 70s in JPS livery with alloy wobbly web original wheels.
Mega machine - 0-60 mph about 3.5 seconds - blow any bike made, off the road up to 70,and then the power fell away .4 wheels great and probably less room than a bike panniers hole.Only car I ever made a profit on too !!!!
If I had the money/could still get in one ! I would buy tomorrow - just enough room for the tripod and the Loweprow with 2 bodies and a few lenses - tee hee - I wish !!

I assume you mean any bike made at the time. Even so, I'd beg to differ. Things like the old Weslake Triumph 8 valve twins.

These days it's a joke. A modern 1000cc would get to 60 and nearly stopped again in that time.

Anyway - stop talking about bikes. I rode through all weathers for 25 years and didn't have a scratch to show for it. Still got a shiny red Ducati 900ss (which I was just about to trade in for a 916) in the garage and a shiny black one in the roof and living room.

What stops me riding them? An injury sustained cutting flowers.

Oooh, I used to have one of them. Totally Italian - when it worked it was fantastic and you fell it love with it instantly...which was just as well, because it broke down constantly for one reason or another, and needed a new clutch every 3000 miles!

A friend of mine had a Caterham with an 1800 K-series in it. That was a scary car, great fun though. He has a Noble M-400 now, he is certifiably insane.

The clutch in the red one has lasted 18 years so far and the black one from 1976 as far as I know. - Not too bad, but you are right anout needing a sense of humour.

Once in a while, I still run my 1972 Norton 750 Commando. The trouble with those English twins is the need to constantly re-tighten one bolt or the other. And I don't dare lend it to anybody. What with the shifter and rear brake pedal on the wrong side...

I always avoided BSAs, I think it stood for Bugger's Stopped Again!

But I could be wrong. Best/worst bike I ever owned was a Triumph T140V Bonneville.

When it ran it was outstanding, but.....

This weekend I enjoyed a 40 knots ride in my grandson's newly refurbished boat:

With 185 hp, no wonder the teenager is proudly commanding the boat with his dad as copilot.

(No great photo, but a great moment).
Best regards
Terry

Loctite doesn't "Loctite" with heat...

But that's part of the charm of all that old iron. One of my friends is riding an old '68 Triumph 650 Bonneville, and he has the same problems.

I still have a tingle down my spine when I think back to the day I bought that motorcycle. My first new motorcycle.

I've had a few more after that one, but could never part with the Norton.

In my young days, the Norton where kind of a status symbol in Canada. You had Japanese bikes, British bikes, then the Norton. The only bikes that were on a higher level were the "Beemers".

Even Harley Davidson motorcycles weren't as highly regarded in Canada due to the association with the Hell's Angels.

Presumably they are infernal combustion engines on an aircraft. Can't quite match that, but our biggest motor is 27MW (about 36000HP) Not bad for an electric motor.

I started with BSAs. My C15 was quite reliable, but my A65 was not so good.
