I wonder if they sent delegations all over the world to quiz those who had already hosted the games and could advise on any pitfalls?
When it might have actually been a good idea, probably not!

Grrr. Who mentioned the #@^$*& Olympics???
Yes Barry, Sheriffhall will be open. You could also look at Wallyford which has a quick train service into Waverley and is easier to get to from the A1.
But check times for both at weekends as things are nothing like as frequent.

Two years ago we went up to Oban and stopped off at a small church (well north of Glasgow) which had 'Rabbits' for gargoyles.
Anyone know where that is please

I don't know of a church with rabbits but there is an angel with a mobile phone on a cathedral in Den Bosch. Not much chance of getting there though this month.

An angel with a mobile phone? I suppose it had to happen, even angels must move with the times.

Well done the Bradley, probably the greatest cyclist we've ever had.
I know Chris Hoy's got a gold or 2 more, but nobody will ever get that French thing again.
Sport aside...

Never could do American whiskey. Tastes a bit too much like toffee for me. Although when I was in San Francisco the barmaid gave me a shot of something locally produced which wasn't half bad.

The absolutely worst experience I had with North American whiskey was in a remote part of Canada. I had unwittingly been drinking moonshine from a Johnnie Walker bottle. I was so ill for two days that if I hadn't discovered the cause I would have taken myself to hospital. The only redeeming part of the experience was that it had been made by 'Indian Johnny'!

Just because it's the same colour as whisky one can make the wrong assumption. At a party I was given a glass of whisky coloured liquid which I downed in one, some toast or other. The liquid turned out to be Lemon Hart Banana Rum. I have never tasted anything so vile in my life but managed to reach the toilet where...I don't need to go into detail.

Well August is here and Edinburgh is looking festive. That is to say that half the roads in the city are closed, the buses are packed and you can't walk two steps without someone trying to push a flier into your hand!
