Is there a paid-for option which allows the TV to auto-mute every time someone mentions the #@%$*£"& Olympics?
Put me down for the De-Luxe version that also mutes the adverts
I don't know who the genius was who invented the Mute button on the remote control, but I think that he ought to be put up for the Nobel Prize for Peace.

What bothers us most is the music overlay, which so often almost obliterates the presenter's voice in serious or semi-documentary programmes. I know that it's primarily an age problem, but for me and the missus it is becoming a real turn-off (literally) on radio as well as TV.

Some correspondence with the BBC Research & Development unit has revealed that they are working on ways of offering alternative channels that are free of music overlays. Hooray, but probably not in my lifetime.

I wonder how many times the commentators will manage to mention 1966 for no necessarily apparent reason?

1966...wasn't that the year Patrick Troughton took over the role of Doctor Who?

Could be...

...and why are the press suddenly singing Bradley Wiggins' praises as the saviour of British sport?

OK, so He did an excellent job in France, but let the lad rest so he can do it again!

1966

Kwanzaa

Kwanzaa is a secular African-American holiday created Dr. Ron "Maulana" Karenga. Kwanzaa is sometimes spelt "Kwanza" (or incorrectly as "Kwaanza") - and the name is ultimately derived from the Swahili phrase "matunda ya kwanza" which means "first fruits" and refers to a traditional African celebration. Dr. Karenga added the additional "A" to the word, to refer to African-American (as opposed to just African), and so that the word had seven letters to signify the seven principles of blackness. The holiday runs from December 26th to January 1st, and was first celebrated in 1966.

In case anyone ever asks

It's mighty warm in Edinburgh this afternoon. I may have to put off the DIY I was planning and sit still with a cool drink instead.

It's one of those wonderful British traits - it's hot so let's get as dehydrated as possible!

Sorry to hear that Tony. I hope all goes well, and you can get to Jersey at a later date.

I am ready to emigrate to anywhere which doesn't over Olympic coverage, and we've only had the women's footie so far, as far as actual sporting events go.

Stupid woman on BBC London News just said "here in Stratford ...I must have heard half a dozen different languages in just a short distance".
Of curse you did - it's London! Nothing new there, and nothing to do with Olympics!!!!

Hi Tony, everyone here at the house of Fraser wishes you well. Brother in law started treament on Tuesday (chemo? he doesn't talk about it) for prostate.
On a lighter note I was given a list of cd's to choose from, singer not tracks, during my initial scan, what sounded the best was Elvis Presley. I think it was a compilation of every really depressing songs he ever sang
