Glad to hear from you Barrie, really pleased that both you and Margaret are healing.
Hi Tony, good to hear from you too. All is well here in the far East. MAK got back safely from Finland last night. Now to put some perspective on a couple of things she is a member of the medical profession show she knows about things! Her holiday gift to me from Lapland is a bottle opener set into a reindeer antler so therefore beer is good for me. Chocolate originates from beans that grow on trees and are therefore of vegetarian origin and must also be good for me (I`m a vegetarian). For non veggies one of the first things we learnt from med school was that "It`s not red meat that kills you but the bluey green furry stuff."

So this morning I was all set.
Dog in car - check.
Camera in car - check.
Me wrapped up warm against -15C - check
Sun shining - check
Car starting -
Car starting --
Car starting .
So dog taken out of car, camera safely stowed in the house again, and I slipped and slid and froze my way to the nearest dog walking area. Neither the dog nor I was very happy about it.

Piper used to love the snow. Nothing he enjoyed more than rolling around like a puppy. The cat was less than impressed and used to look at me with a "why can't you make this go away" look!

I was out with friends, my partner, our son and our friends dog on Sunday and even though I grew up having a labrador their labrador never ceases to amaze me with her ability to prance up and down near vertical inclines with ease

My daughter Emma has "blagged" a 4x4 monster vehicle from the Met Police in order to facilitate her commute from E.Sussex to Central London this week regardless of the dodgy weather - beats 105 minutes each way on an unreliable train !
Aparently it`s "cool" - ah! the joys of ( comparitive ) youth.........
Frosty start here this am but sun is weakly getting through - no wind or rain or what I believe is called snow - tee hee.
Chocolate and beer - love it Cedric, although bacon butties and tea sounds pretty good too !!!!

Looking forward to this , but it's not going to be easy - I'll be glad when it's over

Ah sensible woman. Probably no more expensive than driving, and a lot more relaxing.
Have a good journey, and enjoy being mother of the bride. I'm sure you will have a wonderful time.

A friendly word of caution for your daughter.
I had a 4x4, with electrically locking diffs etc, all the bells and whistles, mud, loose sand, ice/snow, it would go virtually anywhere, but and this is a big but, it would not stop on a slippery surface any better than any other vehicle.
Best regards.

It seems to be a problem with the choke on my car. It starts but it won't keep running unless my foot is to the floor. It is of course an automatic choke, so I have no idea what I can do about it. Gone are the days when you could (relatively) easily replace a choke cable.
I am hoping it will be a bit warmer tomorrow and will try it again then.
We are being warned of black ice tonight due to damp air and frozen ground.
I think I've had enough of winter now. Can we have spring please?

Stan -100% correct, the photo is indeed the author and it's the dead ringer I'm tryng to identify. I do wish I could remember what he last appeared in but alas.....
There is a sting in the tail (as regards the author, I'll let on one day).
During this short snowy spell there have been 3 vehicles in the hedge bank/ditch in the local viinity. Every one of the 3 have been smart 4x4s. Does this say anything about the vehicles or the drivers?

Thanks Chris - appreciate the thought - as she is a Police trained and qualified Advanced Fast Pursuit driver I would hope she has been schooled in all forms of safe driving - and as a mother of two little girls her days of "silly" driving are long over - if you drive a VW T2 camper van you get used to not stopping quickly in ALL conditions !!
Stay warm healthy and safe
