You don't need to be respectful. There are dozens of farmers around here who drive 4x4s and I've yet to hear of one getting even slightly mis-aligned.
But then we've also got the high healed brigade whose idea of off road is Sainsburys (there isn't a Waitrose) carpark, so it probably comes as a bit of a surprise to go off road onto council property. It probably irks them even more to ask "nicely" the oiks who kindly pull them out.

Thanks Chris - appreciate the thought - as she is a Police trained and qualified Advanced Fast Pursuit driver I would hope she has been schooled in all forms of safe driving - and as a mother of two little girls her days of "silly" driving are long over - if you drive a VW T2 camper van you get used to not stopping quickly in ALL conditions !!

Sorry, I don’t think she needs advice from me.
But it was something that sprang to mind when I read your thread.
When I was being professionally works trained for 4x4 driving, I remember it as being one of the first things being stated. “You will be able to get moving under most conditions, but remember you also have to be able to stop”. (May not be the exact words), it was a long time ago.
Now reduced to driving an automatic, with adapted left foot accelerator.
Or a mobility scooter. (Not in the cold weather).
How times change.
Best regards.

No amount of gizmos will slow a car faster in the snow, but they do help you steer out of danger!
I think the hardest thing to learn in a 4x4 is how to accelerate out of a skid. It takes nerve the first time you do it!

Sorry, I don’t think she needs advice from me.
No apology needed - I appreciated the concern - as an ex Frogeye Sprite,Sunbeam Alpine IV & V,Lotus7,Lotus +2S,Vitesse,Sunbeam Tiger,Stag,Spitfire IV and kit car Eagle Jeep driver it`s amazing how I now take the Astra SRi as a "sensible" motor and can only put water and oil in as everything else is a mystery !!!

Mine too .
Our local Renault garage had one for a while. If I had won the lottery...
Instead I am stuck with a Kangoo which won't go. I hate to think how much it will cost to repair the choke, assuming I can get the damn car to a garage to get it fixed!

Ain't that the truth! I wish I could get rid of it, but I have to wait until his nibs retires he tells me. Only another year...or maybe two, or three depending on whether the economy picks up between now and then or not.

Sorry Gwyn! The problems of reliability are so frustrating especially as there is so little that we can do ourselves.

My first car was the Renault R8 modified to boy racer. When the body was written off after an accident (thats another long story) the engine was planted into my first competition car and used in a local Autocross championship. I did not get anywhere but had great fun breaking it one weekend then mending it for the next.

I used to be able to repair my cars. My Dad taught me well. But now as Tony says apart from where oil and water go in, and where the battery is I have no idea what to do under the bonnet. And the Kangoo is a simple car!Sorry Gwyn! The problems of reliability are so frustrating especially as there is so little that we can do ourselves.
Under the bonnet of the Auris Hybrid is just plain scary as it was with the Prius. You can't even change a light bulb yourself - it has to go to the garage .
