I support Birmingham City. I know nothing about football.

You'll be Ok in and around Bordesley Green, there won't be much traffic. While they are playing in Europe they play the next few league games on Sundays. Well, "play" is probably a bit too far fetched, they'll be there.

Poppies have absolutely nothing to do with football - however to be TOLD in no uncertain terms that individuals CANNOT show respect and support on such a sensitive occasion by some pompous inflated and allegedly corrupt leader of an overblown and self important organisation beggars belief and as proven has pricked the conscience of the majority of the country. Can someone please explain what poppies have to do with football? I`m saddened that you can equate Poppies with Red Noses ( an admirable venture however ).Since the football kit of an English player is his working uniform it should be treated no differently than that of a police officer,a politician or any other person who wishes to show respect.
Shame the FA are as spineless as the rest of our so called leaders and bend the knee at the first sign of a conflict - may we give thanks that they were not at Passchendale or Ypres or running the War Office in 1914.

Tony - they get to wear their poppies, on a black armband.
I do sometimes wonder about this poppy fetish though. As a child we bought our poppies and wore them in the week of Remembrance Day and that was it. Some people wore them, others, such as my father(who had fought in WW2) and a neighbour (who fought in WW1) didn't. Footballers certainly never wore them on the field of play.
No one was made to feel a pariah for not wearing one. Now it seems to almost be compulsory - and the bigger the poppy, and the earlier you start wearing it the better.
I have been to the UK in early October and been glared at for not wearing a poppy. I have had rude comments made to my face in late October for not wearing a poppy.
Incidentally I really object to the glitzy poppies they insist on everyone wearing on Strictly.

Before "All Day Opening" in the local pub, at closing time the manageress always came around rattling a collection tin and pushing a tray of poppies it the faces of the hopefully well lubricated customers. A mate of mine caused a mini riot when, for the hell of it, stood up and declared he would not be buying a poppy, as he had one at home from last year.

Pretty soon you're going to be crossing the line of good taste.
No politics is the rule here at PU, so please move on to something else.
