Er, I managed to hit my thumb with a big hammer when breaking up palltes for the stove.

That time I managed to trap it between the hammer and a nail.

That didn't bruise, the hole caused by the nail allowed the blood to leave!

Maybe I should not be allowed to play with hammers!

Why? Has she thrown you out for not finishing the kitchen. I know the opposite sex are perverse but I don't think even they would throw HG out for finishing the job

Where do you get your Liquorice Tony? I usually pick up a couple of bags at Lakeland, the "normal" black stuff. Liz prefers the Mango flavour.
I wish we could get liquorice with the same flavour as those small 1/2d sticks that were available when we were children At least Sherbet Lemons can still catch you out

Do you mean the ones with the flat ends? There is a shop in Whitby does them, as well as Liquorice root.

Great Words.

Promise Yourself

To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel that there is something worthwhile in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful expression at all times and give a smile to every living creature you meet.
To give so much time to improving yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud word, but in great deeds.
To live in the faith that the whole world is on your side, so long as you are true to the best that is in you.

Take care.

I think the ones you mention will be as thick as 7-8mm diameter with the texture of a chew stick The ones I mean were about 5mm max diameter and had some leaves (looked like bay leaves?) throughout the box.

I well remember chewing on Liquorice Root and how the jaws would eventually ache, sometimes soothed by smoking a cinnamon stick in our gang hut Of course by 11-12 we moved on to the real thing as Woodbines were only 9d and available in packets of 5. Anyone remember Joysticks sold singally at 4d each or Domino ( don't think the company lasted long ) at 6d for 4 ? The follies of a mis-spent childhood

Visit the Netherlands - plenty of different varieties of licorice (called drop here) available here. Salty, sweet, flavoured, chewy, soft hard, yes even licorice root. You name it it's available.
