HG - is that what can be termed bijou accommodation - almost Japanese style ? Everything certainly seems to be close to hand - very convenient

I could never understand people being presented with a watch or clock on their retirement. I would have thought the last thing they would want to worry about is the time
My Happiest Days were the day I finished work and the next day when I realised I didn't have to go back. Before that Happiest Days applied to school

Qantas grounded. Another night then in Kalgoorlie and an early train back to Perth in the morning. Feel sorry for those stuck abroad with kids etc.

Dog is still on summertime - can't understand why he hasn't been fed yet .
Still considering a weekend away, but it is really difficult to decide on somewhere to go that won't cost a fortune. I wish we had pubs with rooms .

Remember a few posts back I said I was spending a weekend in Yorkshire.(page 616).
Well, 7am Saturday morning, packed the car, shovelled the dog into the back seat, sped off and...ermmm..... left all my camera gear in the hallway, Stupid Boy! . Most miserable weekend I've ever spent away.

But look at all the extra time you had to spend with the dog

Funnily enough you never hear the pub landlords moaning about the cheap supermarket booze killing their business, just the smoking ban. Gwyn wrote:

Because of the cheap booze from supermarkets and the No Smoking all the pubs around here have lots of rooms I must admit it's sometimes a relief to get inside a pub for a breath of fresh air ...... I wish we had pubs with rooms .

Personally I point to Wetherspoons. They were non-smoking long before the full ban and it did them no harm whatsoever, which would suggest that those suffering since the ban have other problems with their approach to business!
I just wish they had non-smoking beer gardens. I like sitting outside on a warm evening but don't like wafts of smoke while doing so. Now the smokers have taken over the outside tables you're often stuck inside.

Thanks for the sympathy, (I think), I'll just put it down to another "lost" weekend, and try again in 6 weeks time. Meanwhile there is always Cannock Chase.

On Friday I just got "her indoors" trained to carry the kit while I went snapping

and it was going well until she slipped down a mud bank

Luckily she has put the bags down on a seat. I think the sudden lack of weight caused her to over balance.
Day cut short obviously

I live in leafy suburban Utrecht Province. Not far from Soestdijk Palace. I walk my dog in the woods across the road from the palace. The late Princess (formerly Queen) Juliana lived there. The nearest thing to power there has ever been in the area. No masters of industry, no bankers, no top politicos. They all live a bit nearer to Amsterdam in 't Gooi.
Not a lot ever happens here - so imagine my surprise to find a couple of tents pitched on the edge of the woods and a banner declaring Occupy .
Turns out to be some weird group that believes in aliens who have decided it's a good spot for their bit of the Occupy movement.
Very odd.
On a purely selfish note I hope they don't stay long - they do not seem to have toilet facilities which means they are using the woods - yuk.
