Another pointless thread

Does anyone remember Gestetner copy machines. The ones you had to write out a template on to a sort of carbon paper, insert into machine and turn the handle. All my college handouts were done on them.

Gestetner is now owned by Ricoh .

Was that the machine where you could get high on the fumes? As a lab assistant at a secondary school it was my job to run off stencils for experiments, tests etc. Always felt a bit light headed after running off a couple of hundred of those .

Thank you Gwyn, I could not think what you called the carbon things. Stencils that's it.

Yes that’s the one, were you had the master copy on a skin, and you could never load or operate the machine without being covered in the black ink, which was almost impossible to clean off your hands.

Take care.

So what do you think about the UK joining the rest of Europe time wise?

Here most people want to keep summertime all year round. I'd be happy with that.

but the more up north you are does it not mean long dark mornings? or have I got it wrong?

Yes it does - but Denmark, Norway and Sweden seem to cope! (And yes, I realise they are further east which affects things too).

I'd rather have dark mornings and lighter, more useful evenings.

I'd rather just stay on GMT all year round. Less confusing than fiddling with the clocks at two arbitrarily chosen times of year. Putting digital clocks back an hour is a real pain.

Bst all year round would be awesome. Think of the lovely sunrises you'd see! Can't believe this Sunday we're going to voluntarily make our evenings dark.

But you can just get up when the sun is due to rise at any time of year though? Time is a human construct, the sun doesn't care whether we call its setting 1800 or 1900hrs!

Unfortunately most bosses don't think that's a good idea though.

If we are going to change the clocks I would prefer them to go forward at the beginning of March rather than the end, but I'd be quite happy with GMT+2 here all year round.

The UK being on the same time as Europe will really confuse me - I am so used to adding an hour to the start time of programmes and book at bedtime will be on too early for my bedtime.

I wake up when its time to wake up and go to sleep when I'm tired. What the clock says now is largely irrelevant. Can be a bit embarrassing in the middle of some one droning on and on and o zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
