Another Monday morning rant!

I feel that way about Sony, I will never buy anything made by Sony again. Reason ? Tried to upgrade a Vaio laptop from Vista to Windows 7 finished up had to write my own eject CD programme after restoring Vista from the Restore discs produced when computer was new as per Sony instructions. I didn't realise to upgrade the OS meant buying another laptop. Also previous talk of rootkits etc.

I feel the same way about mobile phones. I went to Carphone Warehouse, (other outlets are available!,), wanted a phone. You cannot now buy a moby that just makes phone calls - it has to have a camera, email, internet, touch screen, facebook, twitter etc . All I wanted was a phone that makes phone calls and nothing else. Is that too much to ask??

Flat tyre this morning .
I now need two new ones Winter tyres too. Only just had them put on and one is knackered - the other one is too worn to have only one new one.

Someone really doesn't want me to go to Colombia.

Since his nibs will be flying business class anyway I can't see me going. I'm not paying business class to go - that's a whole holiday! Don't fancy 12 hours at the blunt end while he's at the pointy end either.

So am I, I have to wear hearing aids. I might try that one, thank you.

I will not buy another Sony product or any Apple product due to their terms and conditions.

Sony have given themselves the legal ability to force you to use an item which you have bought, paid for and now own the way they want, and have used their near-infinite resources to crush anyone who attempts to argue. Look up the details of the Geohotz case where someone was forced to accept punitive damages for daring to modify his Playstation and tell others how to do so.

I couldn't care less about Sony's bleating about piracy, that is entirely their own fault for over-charging for media. You have the moral right to do anything you like with an item you own, to modify, upgrade, change the software, anything. I've no problem with them saying that doing so will void the guarantee, make it impossible to use their network services and also prevent their tech support from being able to help you if it goes wrong, but this goes well beyond any reasonable concept of consumer rights.

Aside from a few quid via Pentax for a K5 sensor (maybe next year if prices come down by £100 or so...) they will not see another penny from me until they stop bullying their customers.

I'm glad it all went as well as that Tony - a really nasty experience.

We all can tell dreadful tales about the NHS - but when you need it in an emergency, it's fantastic - everything you need is there as you need it.

I have a Sony e-reader, and it is brilliant. Sony were very helpful when I messed something up, and helped me sort it out.

My mobile phone is ancient, and only makes calls and texts. It is about to fall apart, so I admit I am considering a Samsung smart phone thingy - I will have to get my sons to teach me how to use it though, if I go for it.

I see the new Sony-Ericson is being advertised on the strength of the camera it has, not on it's abilities as a phone .

My Mobile phone is not a 'smart' one - it's a Nokia 6303i - yes it gets internet after a fashion but I only use it for calls , texts and the alarm

When I need a new phone I always look for one with a loudspeaker - useful if you wear hearing aids as I do .

It does have a little camera and I can get piccies from that to my computer using Blue tooth - but since it's such a cheap one I can't link it to my SatNav or my beloved Freda - probably as well as I refuse to use it when I'm driving !

The other one I use is even older - it makes calls and sends texts and has a fantastic alarm which is guaranteed to wake me as it flashes lights at me

I suspect Daughter #1 found a good reason not to use her company supplied Blackberry last week

I work for the NHS as part of the admin staff.
The system is crap but the staff are fantastic. 99% of staff really do care about their patients, it's a pity the other 1% give it a bad name. But that goes for most big companies.
Nurses have the same red tape problem as the police have. They see a patient for 10 minutes and spend the next 30 mins writing reports!

Ditto re Sony.

I bought a hand held tape recorder (pocket memo type of thing).
Worked very well, put the date/time onto the tape - magic just what I wanted.

Bought an in car adapter which would take the 12V down to 3V, then my troubles began.
Faulty adapter put 12 across the tape circuit with obvious results.

Liability accepted by Sony --- NONE -- apparently I should have checked it oout before inserting the little plug. This despite all items labelled SONY and being part of the same family of parts
Cost of repair -- £125 plus VAT
Cost of new recorder -- £63

Bought a cheapo out of Argos.

I detest Sonys attitude to the end user, they treat us all like cattle.

Apple have the same attitude.

But, I do have a Sony TV, it was a good price and has a cracking picture. However since the analogue turn off here it seems to be an hour ahead and won't sort out the programmes on the radio!!

The other Sony kit I have is in my K200d, and I love that to bits. It's not the hardware behind the lens that matters, it's the software and Pentax have got that bang on!
Cheers, HG

K110+DA40, K200+DA35, K3 and a bag of lenses, bodies and other bits.

Mustn't forget the Zenits, or folders, or...

PPG entries.
