I'm not an Apple fan either, far from it, but is is always sad when someone so remarkable dies, especially so young.

Anyone know anything about Colombia?

There's a good chance his nibs will be going to Cartagena for a week to work, and he's asked if I want to go too. It's tempting but scary! I need to be sure there is enough for me to do safely during the day while he is working. Dubious about taking the K-5 for instance.

Of course it still may not happen but I'd like to have an idea of things just in case.

My wife has been there a few times for work.
It`s quite safe as long as you act sensibly;
Do not go out after dark, Always lock car doors and keep windows closed. If going into the country do not go alone and keep to main roads. Do not flash valuables when out. Always carry cameras, bags etc in front of you, with the strap around your neck if poss.
When in a restaurant put your bag on the floor under the table, thieves will run through a restaurant grabbing bags off tables and chairs.

My wife tells me it is a beautiful country with friendly people, well worth a visit. The traffic in towns can be a nightmare, but the country side is amazing. Be prepared to eat lots of meat, the coffee is fantastic, my wife used to bring bags of coffee beans home, best i`ve ever tasted.

I missed the Colombia one and sadly can't view on iPlayer being neither in Britain or the owner of an iPad.

I shall investigate Colombia further, but am trying not to get my hopes up just yet - they are just as likely to cancel the trip as send his nibs.
Exciting prospect though .

Make sure that any white powder you put in your coffee clearly states Tate & Lyle.

Don't pinch the sugar from resaurants and expect to get through customs quickly

iPlayer is just the BBC player for a PC I don't think it's anything to do with Apple..... the Beeb were originally using Real Player so I assume it's based on that.

It plays OK on my PC and I haven't got any Apple stuff on it apart from Quicktime Alternative which will only play older QT stuff. The BBC player will even play on a Windows 98SE machine and no Apple stuff works on that

iPlayer TV is not available outside the UK. There was to be a version for Europe for iPad's only but I don't know if that has gone ahead.

Camera talk:
I won a Zigview S2 on Ebay a few weeks back and then thought, why?

I've used it this afternoon with the camera at waist level on a tripod to shoot a few shots for my webite. Now I know why.

Rant:
I hate old biddies who have all week to shop but still turn up on a Friday and block every bl***y aisle in the supermarket!!!

A 10 minute shop took 45!!!

I have all week to shop but still do my shopping on a Friday - at least the bulk of it. I buy in for 4-5days then.

I never understand why people make a family outing of it, take their kids and then let them run riot. Why can't one parent stay at home with the sprogs while the other does the shopping?

More pet hates in the supermarket are people who wait until the conveyor is clear before eventually putting their stuff on the belt, then just stand there, without packing stuff in. They are shocked when the cashier asks for money. They then hunt for their purse, customer card etc etc, forget their PIN, or worse pay cash and insist on paying it down to the last cent even if it means fishing around and chasing the moths out. Only then start packing their shopping in. Maenwhile the queue is fifteen people long.

Other pet hate is that if I have a trolley full and someone behind me only has a couple of things I always let them go first (even though they will almost certainly behave as above) but no-one ever returns the favour and lets me go ahead when I have just one thing. Grrr.

Here you just have to chill, in the supermarket, people just don't do queing shoping is a social event and therefore involves coffee, cake ,cigarettes and gosip .You just have to join in and if it takes 30 mins to buy some loo paper , that's life.... Jeff...

I hate it when you go in for a single pint of milk and
they say "Do you need some help with your packing!"

I also hate Special Offers that aren't programmed into the till
resulting in being overcharged. It's happened to me four times
at Tescos... the last time was a week ago. I only wanted a pack of
Multi-Vitamins, but the offer was buy three and get the cheapest one
free on all Vitamins and Minerals, so I got three different makes.
I didn't notice until I got home that they had charged for all
three

I was there again on Monday and kicked up a bit of a fuss and
was given something like double the overcharge back. There's
no excuse though that offer has been on for ages
