Could have been nasty, and painful. Hopefully it wasn't.

At least you didn't end up in the barbed wire like poor Hoogerland yesterday.

I must admit that's the thing that always worried me about bikes - if the saddle breaks there's a tube aimed at a rather sensitive area!

My Discovery cooling system only acted up once, after which I removed a bucket-sized amount of mud and dead leaves from the radiator and it behaved. I just had trouble with...

Wheel bearings
Propshaft UJs
Clutch
Alternators
Aircon failed
and when the cam belt went I decided it was time to fix and get rid! Luckily the chap who did most of the spannering on it was after a new vehicle and bought it from me, a week later I went to see a Forester S Turbo with 67k on the clock and FSH which ended up coming home with me.

Wheel bearings-Yep!
Propshaft UJs-Yep!
Clutch-no, just a gearbox stuck in4th!
Alternators-No
Aircon failed-never happens on Mk2s! You just can't turn the vents and doorseals to hot, they seem stuck on cold all the time...

..but driving it was fun and, as I always say, you can park a Landy anywhere you want and nobody argues!

And people wonder why they drive Landcruisers in Tanzania instead of Land Rovers .

As I said if my son had cash to spare the Landy would be great but so far it has cost the bank of M&D a lot - €1600 and counting.....
At least I know this son sees it as a loan, not a gift.

On the plus side I did learn to weld when I had my Landy.

I had to, the chassis needed regular patches for the MOT. Infact there was more Hotpoint washing machine panelling than Land Rover in the chassis by the time I sold it!

What worries me is that they only have two wheels.....it's not natural..

There's only one snag with the Subaru so far - the standard tyres are like driving on blancmange and have some distressing tendencies in the wet.

They're fine on gravel and similar and will probably be very good on snow, but I'm after a spare set of wheels to fit some summer tyres on. They'll probably be slightly larger and ideally black with silver rims, as that way the tyre sidewalls will be lower which should make things a little more directional!

Also looking at the STI parts catalogue and thinking the Forester really is the ultimate sleeper. It looks like it belongs on the school run but it's an Impreza underneath...

Had to get a new fridge installed in the camper van before my holiday last week. Cost a fortune but what price can you put on ice cream and cool beer?

Ah but if its proper beer as opposed to lager then it doesn't really need to go in a fridge

Just finished a very nice bottle of Victory Ale (6% I believe) I then drooled over the bottles of Black Sheep & Wainright Bitter but decided to hit the Bells instead be prepared for some incoherant posts

Had some good beer in Sheffield over the weekend, trouble is I have forgotten its name.

Tomorrow is the collection day here for garden waste

Thanks to the redheaded fridge hoover there are no less than 12 [ yes TWELVE ] bin bags with weeds and such assorted unwanted garden growing stuff which has been removed , and the Local Council will uplift tomorrow .

OK the bags aren't completely stuffed but my garden is just about clear of the nasties , together with the weeds growing on the walls by the pavement [ it's a corner house ] and all my part of the shared access at the bottom of the garden

Best of all has been the reaction of my next door neighbours , who employ a 'gardener' to cut the grass and weed their garden on a regular basis.

We have a sort of sunken semi-circular area covered with red chips at the front which goes in front of 2 windows - one mine and yes , the other is theirs .

By 10am today mine was weed free - their's was not . The ' gardener' doesn't touch it , not only were there about 3 times the amount of weeds , there was a young tree [ well a sapling ] about 2 foot tall growing up through a crack in the 'stone' of the steps up from this bed on THEIR side .

By 5 pm they had actually gone down and cleared the area on their side for the first time in the last 9 years that they have been in the house !!

Fridge hoover and I went out to our local Italian place for a , for him , a very well deserved dinner - and it was superb Bless the boy - he's been terrific and I've told his mother so
let the education continue

Not too painful thanks Gwyn, I got off lightly with just a small but and big bruise to my leg. Could have been far worse!

Reasons why I shouldn't go on ebay in the middle of the night - I now have an MZ-7 on the way (£14 and listed as good working order)! Should be able to fully use my DA 35mm as well as all my other lenses, about the only things in my collection which won't work are the DA zooms.
