Don't worry, they need to be on all four wheels or none at all. The AWD system would throw an expensive wobbly otherwise!

At the moment I have Yokohama Geolandars (yep, that is how they spell it!) which are more of a light all terrain tyre than anything else. They're quiet enough but due to being on 16" wheels the sidewalls are a bit tall for sharp handling. They should be admirable in snow though. These were the standard fit for Foresters as they can handle loose surfaces reasonably well, but given the performance of the Turbo model it'd be nice to have something like a set of 215/55 R17s for summer use.

Back to the lens, anyone have experience of dealing with Walters Photo Video in Merthyr Tydfil? I've checked them out on Streetview and they do have a proper shop (always a good sign). They're asking £385 for the 21mm as opposed to £435 or so from SRS, hence asking!

Yes it is rather strange, given that Lord Nelson was even then regarded as a national hero, it is said that more people turned out for his funeral than that of Lady Diana.

I shall write to my PM and suggest it be made a public holiday

Sounds a safe bet then - I was just a little hesitant as you seldom see any reputable suppliers undercutting SRS by that amount.

I'll see how finances look come the end of the month and decide. I think the summer alloys might come next year as having used the DA* 50-135mm I'm now quite keen to get something a bit shorter to partner it. The 21mm would fit in well with my 35mm and said zoom.

To give an indication of the sort of people who buy Foresters:

A recent forum thread relating to winter tyres had one person complaining that the all terrains they'd bought were useless. Apparently they self-cleaned too quickly and wouldn't let him drift the car anywhere, he'd even been able to tow other vehicles out.

The next comment was along the lines of "So, they're really good in snow then!"

Presumably the very same who welcome the increased road tax on 4WD

Back home safely - no rain but a fair bit of stiff Atlantic breeze. Not too many photos - went to Boscastle,Tintagel,Wadebridge and Daymer beach.Walked to Rock and ferry over to Padstow.High points were - being paddled in an inflatable canoe over the Doom Bar at Daymer and foraging for 5 kilo mussels off the rocks for a mega Moules dinner that night !
It`s going to rain tomorrow apparently so will start editing the shots.
Hope all are well...............................dentist at 4-00 !!

I must admit that slugs, snails, molluscs of any sort - land or sea give me the shudders. I would probably starve to death on a desert island (unless it had cocoanuts and the fish were easy to catch)

Welcome back

Ah, fresh Moules!

I hope you did them with wine, cream and herbs Tony, it's the only way to enjoy the much under rated mussel.
Cheers, HG

Thanks guys - another milestone reached and I am now setting new targets for the rest of the year.

For Moules - 1 large Spanish onion - finely chopped ( brunoise )
1/2 bottle dry white wine
Fresh Parsley chopped and fresh thyme sprigs
oil and butter to fry the onions lightly
1/2 pint double cream
Seasoning.
Sweat off the onions in a heavy based sucepan, add the thyme, parsley and white wine - bring to boil and add cleaned mussels - lid on and shake for 3/4 minutes.Ladle out the mussels into a dish and keep warm - reduce the liquor by about a third and add the cream and reduce to a rich consistency - pour over mussels and season with pepper and more parsley.
Crusty French sticks and a bowl for the shells - glasses of chilled Chardonnay or a nice crisp Sauvignon Blanc or even a Muscadet - enjoy................................
