You are not supposed to modify your car away from the manufactures standard without telling the insurance company. Presumably someone was being honest, as winter tyres normally result in a lower speed rating for the tyre.
That's a very interesting point Barrie. A vehicle will fail an MOT if it does not have correctly speed rated tyres.

There's also the thought that a lot of people put different tyres on when they get them changed. My Puma for example is supplied with Pirrelis, but I found it was better with Yokohamas. I wonder what the insurance company would say about that. The vehicle is after all non standard.

As I've said the car maker issues a specification any tyre made to the spec., regardsless off Manufacturer, should comply.

I don't know how they do with the MOT and speed ratings. The maker claims a top speed of 123MPH for mine but fits V rating for 149MPH when H at 130MPH would cover it. So would I fail an MOT with H fitted?

We are developing a point here.

Hmm. I just got soaked to the skin walking the dog. At least it isn't snowing yet - that is promised for later. My husband is yet again surrounded by the white stuff, which will yet again make his journey home a difficult one.
Sadly (for me) the company where he is currently working have extended his contract by three months, despite the new no contractors rule, so he will be making the journey all through the winter.

Spoke too soon. Suddenly everything is white here - sky, air, ground. everywhere. Bah. Blowing a gale too.

My wife and daughter are supposed to be going to Glasgow this weekend. They travel by train tomorrow evening, so any local weather or travel information would be appreciated.

Best I can do for weather is this

link

Hopefully that's Glasgow

Judging from the last lot the weather forecast really was not that great. The problems before were really problems on the road as they didn't get to grips with clearing it properly. Trains going North were very badly affected too [ err non-existant ]

So far I would expect it to be bitterly cold , possibly some snow though it does look as if it will be mainly on the East side - but who knows ??

Just got in and the temperature's falling here.

We've had snow showers on and off al;l day, but not much on the ground. Now the temp's going down it'll be dodgy on the roads later.

Throwing another log or two in the stove now, getting it cranked up!
Cheers, HG

Anyone know where Stefan is? Did I miss a post about him going away? Very quiet, and uncontroversial around here without him.

Still snowing. My husband left work early so made it home in reasonable time - helped by half of the people where he works having a Christmas party today so there was less of queue to get on the motorway.

Was thinking the same thing, went to check his last posts... no 'screw you guys I'm out of here' posts so I presume he's just busy.

No doubt there's a girl involved

Or he's watching Japanese cartoons!

I was in CCL this afternoon collecting some memory for my son.

His PC that is, not him personally, although...
