I was once taking pictures on the beach at Longniddry near Edinburgh. I remember taking my car keys out of my pocket to take a photo. Unfortunately I forgot to pick them up again.

My other half wasn't too happy about the long trip to go home for the spare keys then coming to pick me up.

Even worse it was getting dark and the car park is a dogging site after dark!

Hmmm

This made me remember a daft thing my husband did

He'd taken me to Church in Edinburgh and was making himself some coffee to have while he read the paper waiting for me .

Unfortunately he had to get out of the driver's seat to fill up the kettle , left his keys in the ignition , filled the kettle , shut the back door and a gust of wind caught the front door and it err........

He did attract a bit of attention in Church as folk spotted a stray unknown man walking down the aisle , carrying a kettle in his hand !! Wasn't it a good job I had my keys with me ?

Just having , what a friend in Rhode Island calls, a little drink in a nice wee crystal glass recovering from today's frustrations.

We found 2 double sockets in the downstairs sitting room which are connected to the Kitchen Circuit . That seems OK BUT we can't find WHERE the connection is - somewhere under the floor but after 3 hours it still hasn't been found !! These blasted sockets should be connected to the sitting room circuit !

Oh I have a wiring diagram of the house - but that was when the house was built in 1957 and the electrics have been changed added to etc so often that the original diagram is no longer any use

Good news is though, that all my phone sockets are now working properly

So you can telephone the electrician and complain at least.

Good luck with the lounge sockets.

I remember re-wiring our house and finding live wires that weren't connected to ANYTHING!!!

The house was only 60 or so years old at the time and the electrics were in lead sheaved cables!

On a different line, I've a new web page of old folding cameras up here.

Finally - problem solved and it's all IDd.

Now we can get back to actually doing the kitchen once the floor has been put down again

My Dad once found a pair of live 230v wires which had been twisted together and "insulated" with a ballpoint pen cap. As you might expect this meant the power being turned off on that circuit for an hour or so until he managed to source and fit a proper junction box!

This was of course in the days when you were still allowed to do your own wiring (circa 1994 at a guess)...

You can still do your own wiring, if you're a 'leccy or don't tell any one.

The guy that did our house before we bought it used a 4" nail as a master fuse and fencing wire for the ground floor ring main earth!

As for me, I only change bulbs nowadays, somebody else gets the dangerous jobs.

Just watched two episodes of spooks back to back, wonderful escapism. Happy days.

Too exhausted to do anything. Two days of looking after the grand-kids for 14 hours each day has worn me out.

Got to do it all again next week too .

I'm afraid I'm not a natural grandmother -I don't enjoy looking after small children, even my own grandchildren.

I'm actually thinking The Professionals is more accurate than Spooks...

Good isn't it?

I was tempted to ask how you would know, but I don't want you to have to shoot me.

Well I did spend three years studying vaguely related stuff! Mind you, if you want real accuracy it has to be George Smiley. The rest of the fictional spies would be far too obvious to pass unnoticed as "grey men".

I've become slightly addicted to ITV4's repeats of The Professionals, The Champions, Randall and Hopkirk, and The Prisoner. All had left the screen before I was born so I never got to see them the first time around.

TBH I don't care if it is accurate. In fact the thought of having an accurate drama about DOTR is the last thing I would want.

I simply reckon that it is the best drama on the idiot's lantern at the moment.

I doubt that Judge John Deed was that accurate. but it was damned good entertainment, similarly Silent Witness.

Big hammer time?

Or a call to the suppliers?

As for TV drama, New tricks for me, I enjoy the gentle humour.
