WD-40 and newspaper. That'll get it going!

Talking of fires, I must make more shredded paper briquettes for winter. We've got one of those press thingies that you fill with soaked newspaper, squeeze, then leave the resulting brick to dry out for a few days. Burns surprisingly well, especially if soaked in WD-40...

No ash pan. Just fire dogs.

It got going eventually and warmed things up nicely. I think the rain has got into our log store

Must order some more logs too. Our last lot came from a friend in return for a bottle of Calvados but he has sold up and moved to France now - yes to Calvados - so I shall have to find a new supply.
Luckily it is only supplemental heating and a new supply is not urgent.

Tonight's tipple -

Not quite the clout of Brakspear's triple or Golden pride, but very drinkable. Went down a treat with some rather nice sausages in a late season BBQ.

Oh! I thought it said "Triple"

I was going to follow with;

I've shared a bottle of Red with the wife, then finished off two cans of wife beater my daughter had left behind and I'm now sat downing a glass of.......

.....Tomatoe Juice

Your friend in Calvados sounds as though he may need to see you Gwyn.

We have one of these Comment Image

and it works surprisingly well for a dry paper log maker.

The logs are useful for lighting the fire, but can damp it down if placed on top of coals. It's an ash thing.

Argh

what a morning

Woke up and got ready for Church - but discovered when I got downstairs I had no power to the kitchen , living room or garage Cancelled the taxi

Had a look at the electricity boxes - one trip switch down - yes the one for the circuit dealing with garage living room and kitchen . Hmmmm put it back up - and it tripped again started unplugging everything to find the guilty object. No joy

Phoned my decorator man to ask him for the name of a sparky . He , nice man that he is said he would come down this morning and see if he could spot the problem , and he'd then move my microwave upstairs to the newly done sitting room so I could get a hot meal [ no problem with the power there ]

Whilst waiting for him - I wondered if the sunlounge was on that power circuit - it was and I discovered that a multiblock which was plugged in was what was causing the tripping Why it's doing it - I don't know , but with that our of the equation I now have power again.

Will get a sparky ASAP .

I'll be happy once the kitchen is done - I'll then be cooking on gas not electricity

I dunno - I keep asking why ?

Oh well - I've coped with

1) lost power upstairs last year because of a brand new time switch [ faulty ] while I was away getting my K-x ,
2) a leaking roof
3) the discovery of 7 wasp nests in my attic
4) a massive redecoration project [ horrifyingly expensive but now it's complete very very satisfying ]
and
5) now another lost power session

All these have happened since Raymond died and I've surprised myself with managing to get thing sorted .

Back to clearing the kitchen ready to start on that re-modelling job.
