What I've done is what should have been done shortly after we moved into this house some 10 years ago , but we never got round to it [ that famous phrase ]
I finally bit the bullet - got a charity to take away the old furniture [ it has to have the sewn on Fire Safety labels now before they will touch upholstery ] and then said to the decorator - come , and he came .
An expensive business but at last , long last, I will have a comfortable room in my home .
Technoburb - I feel your pain that's not fun

I remember the *ist D coming out at similar prices. At the time I had a K1000, 50mm f2 and an old Takumar Bayonet 28mm f2.8. Still have all of them although I'd rather play with my ME Super and 40mm or KX and 28-50mm!

Nooo, you do not want a VW!
I can't fathom the appeal. They're slow, don't handle properly, tend to catch fire and aren't even much good as a camper (stowing the porta-potty under the kitchen? No thanks!) Plus they are ridiculously expensive new or used.
For the same money you can buy a used Hymer A class which beats a VW in pretty much every department. It'll cruise at 80mph on the Autoroute, has a proper shower, blown air heating, ridiculous amounts of cargo space, and the ability to scare the living daylights out of stroppy people in normal cars.

It depends on the age. My parents have a 1993 one, before they started making the smiley front ends with bug eyes which really don't suit a big vehicle.
There's something a bit special about a vehicle where adding a full tank of fresh water improves the handling (by ballasting the rear end and forcing the springs to work)!

Weirdly, the Hymer's manual included a section for ambulances. I think Fiat must have supplied the same chassis for them, as I've yet to find anything on the Hymer apart from it having surprising acceleration (it'll leave white van man standing if you get the gearchanges right!)

My father had an orange VW camper. My kids called it Granan's bus.
When my grandson was looking at some car pictures yesterday he came across an orange VW bus.
My son said to me "oh look Granan's bus". His son turned to him and said no it's not it's a Volkswagen bus Papa.
Useless fact - the VW van/camper/bus was designed by a Dutchman, Ben Pon. His family is still the importer for Volkswagen in the Netherlands.

We currently have a new Beetle and also a Seat Alhambra (VW Sharon in drag!)
We used to own a Mk2 Golf and also an early Jetta and soon we'll have a camper. I want a T4 but I think my budget will stretch to a T25 - yummy
I agree about type 1 split screens, absolutely stunning but what a price !
Hymers are great and internally they are just like a tardis but to look at..... YUCK !!
