I am an uncle.
My brother and sister-in-law had their first child on the 3rd at 10:45pm after a labour that started on Saturday at 1:30pm.
Suffice to say, my SIL is an absolute warrior and they welcomed their son at 7lb 10oz.
I'm yet to meet him in person, and hopefully it won't be long before I can, but already I'm smitten with him.

Congratulations. It's a good way of having 'em - as with being a grandfather, you can give him lots of love and attention when he's being good then give him back when he's noisy and smelly.I am an uncle.
Very long labour . I hope mother is OK. And that father didn't do what I did - long labour (in hospital), midwife said nothing would happen for a long while so I might as well go home (very close by) and get some sleep. I did as she said. My wife has never let me forget it.

Thank you! Mother is good, she's a trooper. Being kept in today and perhaps tomorrow before they can go home. It was a strange one, my brother was around the entire time for her but they couldn't go into the maternity ward until contractions were 'x' minutes long and 'y' minutes apart. That time came, they went in and "nope, go home" was the response - she wasn't dilated enough.Benz3ne wrote:

Cue 2am on the 3rd and her waters broke... "nope, stay at home a little while longer". 4am they went to hospital (again) and my brother had to wait in the birthing suite until full labour was established. Induction, epidural, more waiting. Forceps delivery eventually.
They were told that if they wanted to stay in hospital earlier than fully established labour they could, but my brother couldn't be there "because of COVID". While I fully understand the difficulties arising from the pandemic, it's strange to me that she could've gone in and he wouldn't have been allowed, despite them living in the same household...
Either way, it's by the by! I'll enjoy being an uncle. I keep telling them that I'll bastardise their son.
"Want more sweets, there you go."
"Yeah, we can stay up past your bed time."
"Yeah that quad-bike does look fun..."
Etc. (I jest, really).

That is precisely what good uncles do, though beware that should you ever become a father they will return the compliment and provide the noisiest toys and messiest foods they can .
Hope you get to meet the little guy soon.
I have a new great niece but she'll probably be at school by the time I meet her at this rate, assuming the kids in the UK ever go back to school that is .
Son's girlfriend being discharged from hosptial today, she will stay with her twin sister for a few days. Drove son halfway around Friesland last night to get him back from the hospital to his boat. Got home at 1 am. Woken by him whatsapping me at 7 am. He is sailing again this morning I see, so hopefully his guests are happy.
Maybe skip the kids if you haven't got them already, and stick to being an uncle .
But the sun is shining and the heatwave hasn't yet arived so I am off to do some more weeding. Oh joy.

Best part of kids is when they grow up and leave home. I'm at the point where my son and daughter in law are just about to retire this month. That's a strange feeling. Getting old.

Or in the case of first husband the buying of a drum kit for the lad’s birthday!

Only this week sadly HG. Back to twiddling his thumbs again next week, and probably for the rest of the season.
We bought our youngest son a drumkit for his birthday, and lessons. His older brother was already playing his electric guitar with the volume turned up to 11. The neighbours really loved us .

Today was hardwork in the garden again and will soon be a lot of driving collecting son from hospital and takinng him to his boat an hour away, then back here, another hour away. WOuld be this wek he finally has guests and can sail for a week!
Tomorrow looks like being another mess.
At least on Friday I get my haircut, assuming the government doesn't put it's foot down again at it's Thurday press conference that is. The thought of doing a haircut in a converted garage when it is 35C down where she is is a bit offputting. A "cool" 31C forecast for here. You can tell we have a new lawn!
Edit, page 1401!!!
