A while ago I bemoaned that our local 100year old bakery was about to close, but with the coronavirus they stepped up to fill the gaps left by the supermarkets, including a drop-off service, and have been very busy since. The good news is they are not now closing down so bizarrely the pandemic has rescued this little business, I wonder how many others have been given this lifeline?

Today is a good day, two new and pointless things learned before lunch .
Thanks to careful examination of early morning videos from the camera trap, I can confirm that:
- Robins don't leave the ground by flapping their wings, they jump. Wing flapping starts when they have left the ground.
- A blackbird running is a good candidate for the Ministry of Silly Walks.
Next week, perhaps a video investigation into worms turning...

For the first time I can remember in the time I've owned this house (over 40 yrs), we have robins nesting in the garden (probably because we don't now have any cats!)- at least one, possibly two, pair, is nesting in the ivy on one of the fences in the back garden, and about 5m from the conservatory doors.
The very young cock robin knows that we know roughly where the nest is - so he sits in the plum tree opposite, 3m from the ivy, "watching us, watching him" until he thinks we aren't - and then he dives for the nest!
