Another pointless thread

The price was fair, and I'm happy with it.

I put a reindeer skin up earlier this evening and it's picked up 3 watchers already.

I'm not an ebay fan really, but it is a way of getting rid of things i/we no longer need but other people want.

I also get to spend the money on photo bits as well!

They seem quite popular - especially with Reindeer!

5 watchers now!

I didn't think a reindeer skin would attract so much attention,Hopefully it'll sell at the asking price.

I'm getting fed up of clearing the attic out, don't bother asking about camera stuff, I'll let you know when that's coming to sale.

Can I come and hide here please? I am a Mod elsewhere and for 999 days out of 1000, all is peace and light.

Guess what today is.

All hell has broken loose and as soon as the rest of the Mods worked out what was going on, to a person they legged it.

I'll just rest quietly here a minute until I get my breath back the once more unto the breach.

Leave 'em to it. At the end, review what each participant did, and ban those who overstepped the mark. Permanently.

Phew.

All dummies and teddies returned to their owners. One crossmember (unfortunate choice of words - there were several) of the forum straightened after it got hit by a high velocity rattle.

All quiet tonight.

This is probably the best forum I've encountered where moderation is concerned. The mods only seem to get involved if personal attacks or unsuitable content appear, which is how it should be.

On other forums I have seen:

Members petitioning mods to have other members silenced and/or banned for publicly (yet politely) disagreeing with their policies in a volunteer organisation (public criticism was not accepted, even when highly constructive. That's why I'm no longer a member. Not a healthy way to run any group).

One out of control mod who evidently lacks the maturity to understand that just because he personally doesn't like off-topic content it doesn't mean he can lock, delete, and attack such threads even though they are not breaking any rules. Said forum also sprouted the Kafkaesque rule that "searching for grey areas in rules may be taken as a breach of the rules".

Funnily enough, the only two I now visit (here and a 4x4 forum named Mud Club) have much more laid-back mods who only intervene when they have to and are otherwise human beings!

having been on many (many) forums and similar over the past mumblemumblemumble years, moderation is generally needed in proportion to the size of the community. This one does very well because its a small community, but the moderation is generally invisible because offending posts vanish, which is a bit unproductive for moderation as people just repeat the mistake - locking is often better.

The larger the community, the more stupid it seems - see spEak You're bRanes for more evidence that possession of a computer does not require the ability to be capable of...well...anything other than the ability to randomly string words together whilst inserting foot into mouth and beating yourself over the head with a clue stick...

They even pass up on that sometimes, its not so long ago I called a respected member of this forum a PLONKER in this very thread, for rubbing his eys after preparing chillies or something or other, I wont embarrass him further by mentioning his name but you know who you are technoblurb

PS Morrisons in Stratford is rubbish, they dont have a late night on Fridays.

I'm not sure that counts as a personal attack, more like a justified response!

On a more sympathetic note, Lakeland sell boxes of latex gloves which are ideal for wearing while chopping chillies or similar aggressive foods. You can also wear them while fiddling with bits of camera to avoid getting fingerprints on things like focusing screens, or while filling a grease gun and crawling under your car. Note that wearing the same pair for all of these is not recommended...
