Hope all works out for your sons Gwyn.

Just back from the local supermarket, all I want is a bag of bread flour, can I find any?

No!

As the lad on the check out told me " people thinlk their going to bake bread, but nobody's buying yeast!"

You couldn't make it up, I bake my bread, have done for well over 20 years, but now it looks like I may have to buy some, and all because there's a panic about not having enough food for crying out loud!!!
Cheers, HG

Thanks HG.

We too are just back from the supermarket. There was little fresh veg, no eggs and no normal flour but bread making packs galore. Dried and "fresh" pasta (death date early May) by the tonne, unless you wanted macaroni. Only expensive tins of tomatoes too.

There were I think four other people, apart from staff in there. As usual we self scanned everything, as they have also been requesting, and at the two tills that were open the cashiers, behind their plexglass screens, looked bored to tears.
Managed to get everything we needed.

Very quiet in town and the supermarket has raised it's car park barrier again - it's open all winter but closes in March as the tourists start to arrive. No tourists so no need for the barrier.

Went to Tescos at 9am this morning. The entire overnight delivery of fresh milk had already gone. Possibly parents on the school run stocking up because the kids won't be going to school for a while. No pasta (still), hardly any eggs, sugar low, hardly any flour. But there's no shortage of beer or doughnuts, so who cares#?

DH just stocked up a few crates of beer, since it was on offer.

Just chatted with youngest grandson. I was curious how he was coping with digital schooling, since he has mild ADHD and short term memory problems. He said it is great, and he although he misses his friends he really like working at home, and doesn't want to go back to school.
His mother confirms he settles down to his schoolwork every morning without an argument and really works at it.
Good to hear someone seems to be doing well out of this mess.

Local Aldi is now rationing, 4 of any one. Item only.

So I can't get 6 bottles of beer, my bag has 6 pockets.

I may have to start brewing my own again...

....ooo the hangovers!

However bad things are, there's always someone in a worse state than you.

I visited an old (in both senses) friend this afternoon for the last time before raising the drawbridge. He has been limited to one room in his house for some time due to advancing cancer. Looked after by family and carers but his spirits kept up by visits from friends once in a while. Now there will be no visiting friends. We have probably seen him for the last time. There's the telephone but it isn't the same.

It does put worrying about toilet rolls into perspective.

Our local Tesco (a superstore) unable to supply us with any bread when we went to pick up our click and collect at 10.00 this morning Normally there is enough bread on display to fill a couple of lorries.....the police had to be called to the local Iceland store when their shelves were stripped, and the real crisis has not arrived yet. Sometimes I despair of some elements of the human race.

Our local butcher is flat out supplying meat that the supermarkets have sold out of, same at the bakery. Could this lead to a revival in small shops?

I said just this to my other half the other day. As long as they can have the transport in unaffected there's no reason they shouldn't be able to continue supplying. Same goes for greengrocers and smaller shops.

My wife had to visit our surgery today to have an existing lung condition checked, and that's OK, just has to self isolate as a precaution. On arrival we wondered what the long queue was for. Apparently the attached chemist is too small for social distancing so you have to wait outside until you are called. I have to say people did seem to be giving each other space.

Hope your wife's ok Barrie.

I feel frustrated and annoyed by the selfish, me me me attitude of a small minority (?) of people.

Why toilet paper? Why milk? And who has enough space to store/hoard the stuff that's selling out?

I need a drink....

...nothing new there then!

Got a mention on BBC radio Leeds this morning..

..asked the question `why don't the supermarkets lock up the trolleys and only allow baskets?

Why don't these people buy it all online as they normally do and leave the shops for those that use them?

Because it's ageist - how is someone of my somewhat advanced years meant to cope with the weight of a crate of bottled beer in a basket??

Try getting a delivery slot in the next few weeks!!!!

On a more serious note, my GP daughter encoutered her first probable case of the virus today (and if it wasn't Covid-19 it was a very good imitation). Scary. Particularly as the protective equipment available is very basic (yes, what you see on the TV is true).
