Not really Gwyn, I've been riding bikes for 42 years and my mother still worries

As for forgetting where I park the Yamaha, all I have to do is look for the crowd of wistful blokes!

New bike ordered, I'll be collecting it in late march...
Cheers, HG

Riding for 46 years for me tomorrow. Also prefer older machines as Brunhilda (my R80RT) is 32 this April and I bought her new. She still pulls attention as she's as new and has 7K miles on the clock (being abroad means lack of UK mileage).

Chugga-boom (my W800 SE) was 5 in August and has an Australian twang to the exhaust. You keep going with what you feel is right for you. Wish I still had any of the Yam RD's I owned in the 70's!

so the doc says that the X ray shows wear & tear to a hip joint, OK, but I can still ride motorbikes and my shutter finger will be OK, yes? Aye he says smiling. This getting on in years is a right lark.

I'm not quite at that stage yet but I'm going to start getting the grey hairs... the new turbo has developed a worrying siren noise too!

Fun times.

Does anyone have experience of BMW diesels? I'm either going for one of those or maybe a sporty petrol (1 series or 3...)

As long as I can fit a family of three or four I'll be able to (maybe) get the wife's approval!

Try the back seat before you buy a BMW. Some are almost impossible to get in and out of, and have no room for you legs/head once you get in there.

Interesting point!

I'm a fairly 'not big' person and my family doesn't have any above average height members so that shouldn't be a huge issue. My dad has a 320d and it seems alright for normal use. The 1 series might be something else though, but from a mk5 Golf it probably isn't much different.

If it comes to it and Wayne Sleep can dance after a hip replacement then maybe getting astride a motorbike is achievable!

I know a couple of guys who've had a new hip and still ride bikes. Only issue is as and when it may need doing, how long to have to wait.

If you are not already taking them you need to try Glucosamine + Chondroitin supplements usually sold with other ingredients such as MSM. They can either wind the clock back a bit or provide a complete cure. No idea why the NHS no longer supply them on prescription they only cost about 25p/day.

I'll look out for them Algi.

Off to Abu Dhabi via Schiphol tomorrow to deliver some training so the warmer climate should be an advantage.

Tesco's own brand are OK until you sort out an alternative. Tesco's also have branded one's with added vitamins etc.

Ref vitamins: Costco have some good own-brand versions in "LARGE" sizes at vg prices if you have an a/c - as I have, courtesy of my "company", which I closed a year ago, but Costco don't appear to do "annual" checks after your initial acceptance (5 yrs ago in my case)

PS: in the latter context, one of my U3A collegues was a doctor but retired at least 10 yrs ago - and his Costco a/c is still working
K-3 II, K-3 and K-30 (now running the Hacked K-50 f/w, so it thinks it is one of those ), & some Sigma and Pentax lenses (and a lot of old 35mm gear!) - and now a K-70 from SRS

Just back from a pharmacy in Mushrif Mall with a bottle of horse tablets (Glucosamine + Chondroitin). Not cheap here in the UAE. Will give them a go. Weather is hazy but warm. If I notice improvement with these, I'll sort some out once back home when these are finished. No VOIP allowed in the UAE so it's text, email or calls only.

The ones for a horse should be OK Avoid the one's they give dogs they are smaller and it means taking 5 or 6 to equal 3 of the human ones

I buy mail order ones Nature's Best Glucosamine Gold since Tesco's increased their prices a few years ago. I think all main brands are about the same in terms of results.

Mackerel fillets once a week also help..... the only one's I like are.....

Sainsbury's British Smoked Boneless Mackerel, Taste the Difference (approx. 140g)

I'm not a big Mackerel fan so I'm very fussy
