I was dusting the other week and discovered a roll of film in my Pentax KX. I sent it off to be developed with the latest batch of films. When it came back I found the images start in Southwold (holiday in 2013) and end at Fawsley Church (visited in 2016...) Oops.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

Today!!:
Went outside this morning and discovered that I must have left the Octavia unlocked last night - and I hope the low-life who rummaged around in it thought it was worthwhile, because all he got was a cheap car USB phone charger and a pair of gloves (dirty hands for the use of)
Took the Oct for its MoT, and it failed on 2 small issues:
- one headlight out of alignment - fair enough, that can happen
- AND (would you believe it!) the horn was considered too raucous/shrill (probably because I'd added a small Steibel Nautilus electric air horn in addition to the puny OEM fit horns). Somewhat "flabbergasted", I asked if they were "serious" and they said YES. So went outside and ripped the wires off the air horn relay so that it didn't then work with the OEM horns, and then I asked "is that OK" - and they said YES! They then adjusted the headlight and the car passed via a "retest" ! (Got home, found a replacement relay because I had damaged the mount of the existing one, and reconnected the air horn - all good now":-rofl2)
PS: that air horn + OEM-fit horn arrangement: I did point out that that no comment/fail had been given when the car with the same arrangement was tested at the same Kwikfit branch a year ago; and then asked if the relevant MoT "rules" had changed in the meantime, and the reply was NO. However, the test personnel HAVE changed in the last few months and so, it seems to me, that passing or failing this particular part of the test is very "subjective" on the part of the particular test technician .

You want to take a 1960s moped for an MOT...
...most 'modern' places haven't a clue where to start.
Poor brakes, dodgy horns and 2 stroke smoke are only the start!
Fortunately I have a test station that knows what it's doing.

The same issue exists with many pretty old cars which will soon be exempted from the MoT test under the forthcoming DVLA 40-year exemption (anyone heard of that? - if not then see mags like "Practical Classics" or "Classic Car Weekly"!) - and/or even somewhat younger vehicles where most test stations don't have the knowledge/experience to test those to the relevant (i.e. those applying at the time the vehicles were first registered, and NOT the ones for recently registered ones!) test requirements.

My old Land-Rover once passed its mot with inoperative* wipers, washers & demister - the tester pointed out that when it rained, I would have to fold the windscreen down instead. My old Rover SD1 failed its mot on many counts - 'corroded to excess' was a regular theme. It also failed on 'rear doors inoperative', one wouldn't unlock (70's Rover central locking), the latch cable had slipped off the handle on the other (Haynes were very helpful - step 1 'open the door'...).The same issue exists with many pretty old cars which will soon be exempted from the MoT test under the forthcoming DVLA 40-year exemption (anyone heard of that? - if not then see mags like "Practical Classics" or "Classic Car Weekly"!) - and/or even somewhat younger vehicles where most test stations don't have the knowledge/experience to test those to the relevant (i.e. those applying at the time the vehicles were first registered, and NOT the ones for recently registered ones!) test requirements.

No you don’t, try Gtech! Absolutely brilliant. On the leaky car theme, when I was dating my wife-to-be she complained her feet got wet in her Renault 4 whenever it rained. Shut your flap! I said. (The car had vent flaps below the windscreen of which she was blissfully unaware).

No, Electrolux sucks. One tag-line that didn't cross the Atlantic too successfully.

Maybe is just the brightness and warmth of the color, since winter is more cold toned, and I guess my eye or unconscious mind was missing the warmth. No, I don't want to be normal but this seemed odd.. Where did this odd interest come from?! Well, never mind
Probably. But do you really want to be normal?

Two of my sons own LRs bith older then them, and they have somehow got them through the Dutch MOT with useless windscreenwipers, washers and demisters.jeallen01 wrote:

My grandsons were so used ot being bundled up in thick coats to travel in the LR they complained that other cars were too hot.
Just back from an all to brief jolly around northern France in the camper. I'd forgotten how lovely that bit of France is, and once you get past Calais how lovely the coast is too. I'd also forgotten just how unlovely the Belgian coast is.

Belgium would have a nice coast but for the great wall of appartment blocks all the way along it. Saves spending on sea defences though.
