I spent a winter in Southern Norway many years ago, when it got as low as -20C. Easy to sneer at U.K. chaos but there are major differences; for one snow is inevitable and planned for in Scandinavia and all cars by law must have winter tyres, and authorities are well equipped with snow clearing machines; second the population density in the U.K. is many times higher so far more roads and much greater demand on infrastructure and resources.

PS one time a snow blower had cleared the road and deposited the snow over my car parked on the side of the road, when I came out at the end of the day just the roof was showing! Got warm digging it out.

Thanks Gary, though this Mum has to wait until May for Mother's day.

His Nibs will be 70 tomorrow, and grandson#2 will be 9. Celebration for the grandson next weekend, as his Dad is in Sweden for work, and His Nibs' celebration outing is the weekend after that with all the family.

I read the comments on the UK weather with interest, but you don't have all the problems you know. We have a public holiday on Monday so I was watching the weather with interest to see if I could get out in the garden and get some work done. Saturday morning and by 09:00 it was 30 degrees C and by lunchtime 36, so all I could really do was sit inside and watch it all turn crisp.

I miss the bank holiday rain we used to get in the UK.....

Best beer I've had recently was last week in Copenhagen.

Norrebro brughause do wonderful stouts, as well as good bitters, lager styles and food.

Why Copenhagen in the middle of winter?

Somebody took his family to meet Swedish friends and celebrate a birthday.

That's 60 years I won't see again!
Cheers, HG

Happy birthday HG. Copenhagen is as good a place as any (and a lot better than many) to spend a weekend in March.

You'll have to come over and try our BrouwDOK.

Happy Birthday to the Pointless thread!

I was just reading on another forum of an Australian couple in a rented campervan in Switzerland last week. Totally unprepared for snow, almost shocked that they go stuck on a blocked road, having ignored the road closed signs. They had to get the police out to rescue them. They were lucky not to get a mega fine. New Zealand has snow, as does bits of Australia. Probably the cheapest way to get the GKs to see snow!
