Would that be a bourbon or similar?

If not then I'm starting to worry that the cold could be 'bird flu'!

Cheers, HG

That's exactly what I have in front of me right now - or rather the empty glass it was in. The whiskey is now in me to chase the damn runny eyes and nose cold out of me.

My sister-in-law (who only drinks Jack Daniels) told this story during a family lunch. The joke really needs to be told out loud - if you just read it you may miss the point:

A man announced to his family that he needed to buy a few things and was going to the shopping mall. His little nephew piped up: "Can I come with you, Uncle?"

So off they went to the mall, but after a while they became separated. The little boy was frightened and crying, but one of the security guards saw him blubbing and went over.

"What's up, lad. Why are you crying?"

"I've lost my uncle"

"Eh, don't worry lad. We'll soon find him. What's he like?"

"Whisky and women with big boobs."

Steak and salad washed down with a beer, we eat well at home, now it's time for TV.

A Father Brown mystery should hit the spot.

We had steak pie. Labelled The British Pie, but made just down the road from here . It was OK, but I make a better pie. Didn't have time today so thought we'd try these from a local supermarket.

Lidl had a "British Week" last week so we stocked up on cheddar and sticky toffee pudding. Their bacon is full of water and too salty for my tastes so we gave that a miss. Their steak and Stilton pies had sold out!

Nothing on TV here. BBC hopeless, and the other 998 channels no better. Bored to tears. His Nibs is out again tonight (as he was last night when there was also nothing on the box).

We watch very little live TV, mostly dipping into Netflix or boxed sets of Classic TV. Current offerings are otherwise pretty dire.
Best regards, John

Netflix in the Netherlands is so dire we didn't bother paying for it after our month free trial. It might have improved lately but somehow I doubt it.

Belgian TV often comes up with some gems like American Epic which is wonderful, and Vera is shown on Belgian TV, several series late. Dutch TV is just drivel for the most part, not helped by my wooden dining chairs being better actors than many Dutch TV actors. German TV could be interesting, but they dub everything and we don't speak German.

We are off to some good old fashioned story telling tomorrow evening being put on as part of Leeuwarden being European city of culture. They are putting on events through the province and tomorrow evening in lots of towns and village there will be story telling events. We chosen ones in Dutch as our Fries is non existent.
