A First for me on my birthday. We went out for a meal at a local pub with His Nibs, his sister and her husband. We got thrown out. Brother-in-law is 77 and it's a first for him too. Now they have one less pub in their village they can use.
No one worried by it, and we went somewhere else and had a great meal.

Fess up Gwyn. What did you do to get them thrown out?

It was actually really stupid.
We were in the UK, staying with His Nibs sister, aka SIL, (since she lives conveniently close to Dover :wink.
Being a Monday many places were shut, so SIL booked a table at a pub in their village. We have eaten there before and it is OK.
Well, we arrive to a virtually deserted pub. Two blokes propping up the bar (who had to go find someone to serve them!) and a couple already seated with their young son (maybe 11 years old) at a table waiting for their meal. Several empty tables around, but the table with a reserved sign on it was bang next to them, which seemed odd and put me off a bit to start.
The menu was on a chalkboard, and there was a wide choice of dishes listed. Something for everyone. We ordered a couple of beers, a G&T and a glass of wine, and sat down. The waitress brought our drinks and proceeded to tell us that half the menu items listed were not available. No duck, no lamb, no pork, no veggie dish, no this no that. Not a lot left that I liked or SIL liked. The waitress came to take our order and we asked for more time. We tried to get the phone number of another pub, but couldn't get an internet connection to find it, so resigned ourselves to eating there.
We placed our order, with me ordering two starters since there was no main on the menu I could eat. We also ordered an expensive bottle of wine. The wine came, it was opened, tasted and poured.
Suddenly the owner appeared, started shouting and screaming at us, in front of the other guests, calling us rude and ignorant, because we had considered moving to a different pub for food. We said we were disappointed in the choice available, and I said since the food was listed on a chalk board it made sense to erase the items no longer available. She declared me stupid, with no idea of how to run a pub, called us all ignorant and demanded we leave. So we did. Didn't pay for the drinks. She never asked us to, she just ordered us out.
We went back to SIL's place, found the number of another pub a bit further away, and went there instead. It was packed to the gunnels, friendly lively, great service, and we had a fabulous meal, and an even better bottle of wine for less money, and we gave the landlord there a good laugh too when we told him our tale.

I assume you are been taken out to a swanky restaurant?
Although in my experience, the Netherlands are one of the few countries who can make British cuisine look good.
