I was wondering if anyone else noticed odd behaviour from users of other brands of camera?
The other weekend I was at Bury Bolton Street station on the East Lancashire Railway happily shooting away with my K5, a chap with a different brand of DSLR (I'm not sure I can mention the brand on here without either John or Ken taking me to task for "swearing") took a look at my camera and scuttled away.
Unless it's me, I just found it quite strange and for some mad reason it amused me.

Oh yes, I get that a lot. Sometimes it peeves me off, most often I just ignore it. And then there are times when you get some elitist condescending people talking about their gear.I was wondering if anyone else noticed odd behaviour from users of other brands of camera?
In a lot of occasions I've never seen their photos though.

Trainspotters would do well throwing away their notebooks
and buying Pentax K-50's It would make a good advert for
Pentax as well..... 20 Anorak wearing trainspotters on a station
suddenly throw away their trainbooks and nip into WH Smiths on the
station and all come out with K-50's + flashguns and then
go back on the platform, still wearing their anaoraks and
photograph the trains Much better than scantily clad model girls
and more appealing to real men

I'm recalling that strange Kent air museum that didn't allow cameras or notebooks and pencils. The sort of place that leads me to be somewhat confrontational, but fortunately they were closed so they survived.
Anyway, notebooks. Some people train spot, fair enough if it suits them. Lately I've become aware that some people serial number spot, collecting serial numbers of cameras and lenses. They hope to be able to extend the range of numbers known and can get quite excited about it.

Those in my experience are likely to be the ones who have absolutely no clue how to actually take a photograph with their shiney equipment. As a consequence they usually have the wrong lens for the job in hand or at least no idea how to use it.PJMcKenna wrote:

I find their bluff and bluster tends to go away fairly quickly if you just quietly take your photographs and make sure the screen is (accidentally of course) visible to them as you review your handywork.
As a pleasant side effect of being a bit on the small side, Pentax tends not to attract many of the "all the gear, no idea" types, so even the less gifted of us can generally outshoot the average condescending Canikon user.

All I'll say is the brand of DSLR the other guy had begins and ends in the same letter and the camera was a D something or other, I can't quite grasp this business of D followed by four-figure numbers, not that I'm that interested either!
Maybe it had something to do with the careful way I was photographing D9016 and its nameplate......

D followed by 4 numbers - cheap.
D followed by 3 numbers - good.
D followed by 1 number (and perhaps a letter) - very good.
Mind you, K followed by various numbers and letters - very confusing. And cars are much the same.
I'm sure marketing spend a lot of time working out how to get people to buy things based on the name.
Personally I work on the "mine's bigger so it must be better" principal.

Trying to send a parcel via the post office will drive you to drink.
I packed the parcel, took it to the PO and they would not accept it for 1st class small parcel. Reason, the box was too small to attach the labels, stamp etc.
Back home, put the box in a jiffy bag to make room for the labels. PO now say it's too big for 1st class small parcel and quote nearly twice the price for sending it.
I give up and leave.

You need some nice little 152mm cubes, available from Amazon. These qualify as small parcels. I buy them for about £26 per 100.

Thanks John. I ended up sending it via a courier, that MikeP recommended some time ago, with a broader tolerance of parcel size and weight.
