ND filters... about to buy my first one.

mostly i'll be using the filter on my kit Pentax 18-55mm II lens. don't have a lot of money - actually, don't have any money - to spend upgrading lenses so need to make do with what i have. I want to be able to take long exposure daytime shots of waterfalls, waves, clouds etc.

ND filters... about to buy my first one.

ND filters... about to buy my first one.

Some ND filter are not actually neutral, they add a slight colour cast to the shot. Some warm the images and others cool it. If you shoot RAW, then it's simple enough to include a grey card or just a white piece or card/plastic in the frame to take a white balance from - this will also remove any co...

PPG loves me again.

I have a minor niggle, though. Seems to me that there is an artificial vignetting added which is rhombic in shape. Prieni Not a vignette, but In LR 2 you now have the option to apply local adjustments using a brush or a graduated filter. This I used to darken the corners and mask off some ugly b...

wedding photography.

Mike I'll give you a couple of shaggy dog stories, during my wedding days one wedding I done I put a soft focus filter on my Mamiya C330 to take a shot of the bride, and because of the twin lens I forgot to take it off  However when the couple got their photos they were absolutely delighted...

Some Advice Please

By the way, I think you may find that the "Hoya PL lens" is actually a filter screwed to the top of a Pentax 50mm lens. G

Pentax K10D, Sigma 10-20 and Cokin filters

I use z pro for my 16-50 DA. From what I have found, not only the lens angle will give you vignetting, but more importantly the lense diameter. What is the lens diameter of this 10-20? With my 77mm diameter i get very minimal vigetting at 16 with the z pro. Having said that, without the filters ther...

Shooting with fog

What a great weekend. Believe it or not I have been dreaming for the last 2 weeks of shooting an isolated tree in the fog, and this weeekend I went to a farmhouse in Umbria to sit by the fire and relax with friends and to my surprise an early Saturday walk with the dog presented itself with the thic...

Shooting with fog

Here's one of the shots I took on that weekend. I think it came out ok. Here I used my pentax K10, DA16-50mm lens, manfrotto tripod, ND8 cokin z pro filter.

In case you need some new clothes.

I wonder if this post will make it past the spam filter (and maybe it shouldn't ) Someone just pointed me to this site with . Some of the designs are quite funny. I want to be better approaching people on the street and for this I think some of them could be quite useful. Anyway. Penta...

Can anyone explain this?

Changing the angle of the lighting changes the reflection and makes the exposure slightly different. A polarizing filter might have mitigated the difference.

filters to snow

Hi! I need some help: It´s necessary a polarized filter to take photos in the snow? Some tell me that it is necessary and others say the polarized filters distort the colors. I've never used one of these, so I need some opinions about! Thanks!!

filters to snow

It´s necessary a polarized filter to take photos in the snow? No not at all. With snow photography keep in mind that the camera meters grey so when confronted with the white snow it will try to make it grey under exposing your photos so you need to over expose your shots. Some tell me that it is...

filters to snow

Thanks for the help! I´ll try to get a polarised filter here, only just in case I need it, but I´ll try to make the photos without it, using the over-exposure as you have said. Thanks again, I really needed this help

Experience with Noise Ninja ?

Zoltan, I would recommend you give a try, it was originally developed for noise reduction but has now progressed into quite a nice editor too with a nice simple logical work flow. The noiseware aspect works very effectively I think. I generally work with uncompressed Tiff files from CaptureOne...

Ghostless filters

The ghostless filter has a shape that mimics the shape of the front element of the 50mm lens for the Spotmatic - the f1.4 version I think. The theory behind this is that it means the light path is not diverted by a flat filter. Of course other lenses will have different curvatures, so the filter...

Top Tips.

Providing that you keep an eye on the pad and brush/shake off any grit from lenses before using the pen on them then it should be ok. I use mine if I inadvertently put a fingerprint on a lens or (for example) if it gets a couple of drops of water blown onto it. It does wonders for greasy marks, ...

What do you carry with you when you go out to photograph?

My walk about kit fits into a LowePro 100 AW sling bag - just barely. K10D with grip mounted, SMC-P M 100mm f/4 macro, DA 12-24, DA* 16-50 and DA* 50-135, "Moose" 77 mm circular polarizing filter for use with the DA* 16-50, blower and brush. If I am unsure of what I will see, I normally mount the 16...
