had the k10 for a month - need help with accessories for pla

I would suggest don't bother with a tripod, it will constantly get in the way. Use SR and higher ISO values where necessary instead. Maybe buy a 50mm f1.4 lens for low light situations. A bean bag with mount screw could be useful - available from Jessops. Use the best quality JPEG capture and tak...

had the k10 for a month - need help with accessories for pla

1. Tripod - definitely useful to have one although I don't personally use one all that often. A cable release is useful if you do get a tripod but they can be picked up cheap from Ebay. 2. Raw or Jpeg - I use both, raw when lighting conditions are difficult or I want the very best quality, jpeg w...

had the k10 for a month - need help with accessories for pla

Thank you all very much for your help and thank you for the comments about my picture. I would respond to all the comments personally but you all kind of echo the same advice and thus I shall reply to all. I will look for a decent filter but I will prioritise on memory cards. I already have a spa...

had the k10 for a month - need help with accessories for pla

Hi Eric, Stating that you are NOT a good enough photographer to miss out on that once in a life picture is an absolute Non argument. You were smart enought to buy that K10D, so you want yourself taking the best photographs possible. Martin Yes, I guess there is that  I will be off t...

Who was Ensinor? any history please

Thanks Kim Thats about all I could find. It's a heavy lens about the same length as the pentax 28-90 but with a bigger lump of glass at the front, filter thread is 72 mm. Focus ring rotation is short only about 60 degrees. Getting some reasonably results whilst relearning manual basics a tweak...

blow out skys - how to solve the problem??

With reference to the shots you've posted:- ND Grads (one or more) can help solve the problem if, and only if, the brighter part of the image composition is to one or more edge(s) (top, bottom, right, left). The bright portion of your images is not at one or more edges. ..... Hope that help...

pentax *ist D

has anyone taken apart an *ist D? we want to get at the hot filter to convert to IR (previously done with other cameras): have replaced my *stD with K10D, so it is redundant.

pentax *ist D

A reapir house can replace the IR filter with plain glass. This is done quite a lot in the USA and Fujifilm actually market IR versions of their S5 Pro and S9600 cameras.

pentax *ist D

I'd look at picking up a second hand DS which doesn't need modding rather than risk damaging the D As far as I know the sensor and filter would be the same on the Ds as it is on the D. IR sensitivity is okay on both, but with the filter removed I'm guessing shutter speeds would be much less - handh...

Okay, that was bad punctuation. ...with the filter removed I'm guessing shutter speeds would be much less. Handholdable? How's that? :D Dan

pentax *ist D

well I seem to have started something if only an intellectual exercise on the definition of shutter speeds; the whole point of modifying the camera for ir is so that I CAN handhold. I have an Olympus C70 which has been modified and can be hand held, but it is "only" a 7.1 compact. I'm ho...

3D lens for SLR's

The lens seems to make photos for stereoscopes or whatever those viwers are called. Irfanview have a 3D filter so you can view your photo in 3D with those red/green glasses. I haven't tried it - no glasses :(

3D lens for SLR's

I know you don't need red/green glasses for real 3D but you do for the 3D filter in Irfanview. Not posessing a pair I have no idea how good the filter is though. All I know is it's a lot cheaper than a lens

Weekly Comps: Buildings

John Did you use a filter on your entry? If not what caused the star patterns on the lights? It's a cracking good shot in a place I must visit.

Weekly Comps: Buildings

No filter, it's the bright light sources causing the effect. You can get entry to the Library no problem, but special permission will need to be sought for any photography. This was a special visit by our camera club. We also got to view a slection of archive items, including Fox Talbot's &qu...

lens cleaning

Have anyone tried single use cleaning wipes intended for spectacles on camera lenses? and if so did you have any problems. I recently bought some for my glasses and was amazed at how simple it was to get my glasses clean and smear free with the minimum amount of effort. I have never been very ...

lens cleaning

The first rule of cleaning lenses is don't. At least, unless absolutely necessary. Personally I would not use spectacle cleaning wipes because they are impregnated and may have an adverse effect on the lens coatings. I use the Pentax microfibre cleaning cloth and this seems to be totally satis...
