Dynamic Pixel Shift - a simple comparison

I have pixel-peeped these to death The things we do to pass the time during lockdown... Colours ought, in principle, to be more accurate because each pixel in the image is sampling R, G and B pixels from the sensor rather than interpolating from neighbours. What difference that makes in pr...

Spot metering, a mix of relearning or old age.

The second is the same picture with PP to increase exposure which shows the actual scene as per viewfinder. Our eye/brain co-ordination can show us images with detail far better than any camera sensor yet invented. Your first image is by far the stronger, the second shows a washed out image. ...

Couple of K3iii low light (theatre rehearsal) images

Used the K3iii for its first 'assignment' yesterday, coupled with the Sigma 17-70 2.8/4 C lens. These images were taken from a play rehearsal at the Abbey Theatre (St Albans), quite a testing environment. Lighting was muted and these images were both taken at ISO6400, in TAv mode (SS 1/60, Apertur...

Light and Oats

Not normally a big fan of pointillism, but I do like no.3. No.2 is interesting because I think you would normally expect the in focus area to to go across an image parallel to the sensor, not move deeper into the scene which is the effect here.

MX-1 at Church

Thank you, John, Gareth and Geoff. I enjoyed your review, John - it's excellent. Perhaps you should get a backup soon. if you see a good bargain - I did, a couple of years ago, as it seems Pentax aren't intent on following it with an upgrade. Geoff - all the MX-1 shooting details are in the ima...

Not a Tree

What catches me with these is the vibrancy of the greens 8) Partly down to a bit of added contrast, but mainly due to the (CCD) sensor. One of the reasons I like old cameras - up to about 10MP, they tend to be CCD which has a slightly different colour handling.

*istD behind f/4

There is something beautifully "natural" about the colours with that sensor - nice shots 8)

Trying a ND filter into the sun.

You can fry your sensor too, especially in live-view.

Sankyo Kohki 200mm fixed with a big hammer and a bit of hardwood!

As you know, I love old glass. Often, if a lens appears beaten up it's because it is a good one and has been heavily used. So when I saw a cheap Sankyo Kohki Komura f4.5 200mm with a bashed in filter thread (and a wonderful 18 blade preset aperture) I grabbed it. Turned out to be an awful thing so i...

Back in the Fold

Having tried the dark side, M4/3rds. Decided "better the devil you know ". Found using the camera was not as easy as my K3 as well as the astronomical prices of the PRO lenses plus the general short comings of the smaller sensor. These are of course purely my findings. Being honest i could not fault...

Night Photography with K10D and 'RAW'

Great images Peter, I love the starburst ones. The K10D is a fantastic camera, it has a great CCD sensor that reproduces images differently to any of the more modern DSLR's. Your skill is very evident in these shots. Kind Regards David

Lentney Battery

The old flash is a Centon FG 30 D which is not TTL, ( came free with some other kit - P30N slr which was bundled with a Slide converter I wanted) I think the flash settings are 'directing' / telling the camera what to do and not the other way around? With any older non-P-TTL flash there is no comu...

SMC Pentax "K" 28mm f/3.5 shift

This is my second copy of this lens. Optically just as good as the first but cosmetically much nicer. I eventually managed to sell my original one on. On the US Fora I have been doing the "Single in..." challenge. April was month four of using my K-series lenses (so far K28/2, K120/2.8, K50/1.4 ...

Overcast walk with the GRIII

Thanks for the kind comments - and Yes, it is the size that encouraged me to bother taking it with me - but once I'd started "seeing" that's when I wished I'd brought the K1 and DFA21 :D The GR series cameras are superb, the mkIII being an improvement over previous versions in small but signif...

First images with the 120-400mm

Thanks all. Literally just had a A400 Atlas on the go around. Used the K3ii in the garden and it's not a fast moving plane but noticed about 60% were binners! It's much better on the K1. Thought the extra reach of the crop sensor would be better over using the K1 in crop mode as more pixels but I...

Churchyard stroll with the MX-1

Thank you. I like the MX-1 for its quality and compact convenience, and I've always wished for an upgrade to MX-2, with a 1 inch sensor and a viewfinder. Philip

Some lenses have their own unique "look"....

It's what happens when you put a drop of vodka in the cat's milk. Seriously, I think it is a descriptive term for the mirror arrangement. The huge concave mirror at the back focuses the incoming onto a smaller mirror right at the front, which sends the result through a hole in the big mirror and...

Q-ing in the garden

Thanks. That appears to be a cracking little camera! It is indeed, even though the photographic press dismissed it because of its small sensor and it didn't sell well because of its high price. But most people who bought it came to love it and appreciate the quality of its tiny lenses. If any cam...

Q-ing in the garden

Good, detailed and colourful images, Steve. I don't have a Q but feel similarly about the MX-1, another small sensor Pentax capable of remarkable results although, of course, it doesn't have the possible focal range of the Q. Philip

Q-ing in the garden

If my memory is correct, the story (which may or may not be true) was that the original intention was to put the MX-1 sensor in the original Q. However, the sensor wasn't going to be ready in time so an available, but smaller, sensor had to be used. Meanwhile, the lenses had been designed for the bi...
