Pentax 17-70mm first pictures

Excellent shot, I really like it. Is that dust on your sensor, 3 small spots just above the horizon, left of centre. :?:

Second bash at Portraits

Sorry to say but the lighting is crap, and it looks as if you have a lot of dirt on your sensor, when I had my studio I used to practice with different objects on a table and play around with the lighting, now with digital it is so easy to take 100 shots until you get it right, practice makes perfec...

Test Shots SMC Pentax-A 1:2 50mm Lens

Just a slight tweak in levels by moving the highlight slider along to meet the curve rescues things a bit, not sharpness though. That might be dust on your sensor about a third of the way in from the left at the top.

More water play but with wine glasses

That looks much better Amin! :-) Glad the paper trick helped. Just a couple of points. The right hand glass, with the pale blue/green 'water', has marks on the glass from the liquid. You might have to give it a rinse before doing some more shots, and not leave liquid stood in it when it's level. ...

More water play but with wine glasses

Dan I did notice those spots and the glass being dirty also. I was already so tired by this time that I just couldn't get myself to go out of the shed and rinse and start all over :). I kept on doing that every time I moved the glasses or the glasses shook a little while I was moving etc :) Oh, an...

One from the Farne Islands

From the Inner Farne to be exact. More or less straight out of the camera, a bit of cleaning thats all. John Riley was correct when he said that a 55-300 would be enough for close ups of the birds. C&C welcome, so that I can tell my good lady that we need to go back next year. Thank...

One from the Farne Islands

More or less straight out of the camera, a bit of cleaning thats all. Did that include any sharpening? I expect I'm wrong but it doesn't look as sharp as I would expect your shots to be. Do you shoot RAW or JPEG? I'm always interested to know how people reach the final image as it helps me learn, an...

K20D + DA*300mm @ ISO 6400 - Does it cut the mustard?

These look fine to me. No need to defend yourself. Almost any worthwhile (Pentax or any other brand photographer) will be using RAW images with some processing, to a greater or lesser extent. The skill of the processor has as much to do with the image as the sensor.

first go at macro?

They are wonderful! About macro it used to mean 1:1 magnification I believe but nowadays it means that the subject is bigger in real life when printed on 6"x4" paper... don't ask me why though :? Now everything below 1:5 magnification (depending on the sensor) can be classified as macro

Still impressed with the Pentax 17-70

Have to agree that it's an excellent lens...I've recently swapped to it from my Sigma 17-70, which I also think is excellent. In sharpness I think the Sigma is ever so slightly better but the colour/contrast & SDM of the Pentax have really won me over....must admit if I was buying new though wit...

Today's drops

Thanks everyone for your kind comments :). I have been enjoying this series and trying to alter things just to make it more entertaining. But I must admit, they are a pain to shoot. I find it far far more difficult than the smoke bubbles and even compared to the wine glass splashes. Each diffe...

First attempt.

I dabbled with IR but could never really get on with it since the exposure times are so long with modern DSLR's. As John has mentioned, the earlier Pentax DSLR's are better for IR work. One point though, about blacking out the viewfinder. I think this is only necessary for metering, not the actua...

Upon Reflection

Besides first all of them are great for me. I could lose my self into those pictures. What is behind that farhest mountain? I would really like to spend few days of my life finding that out. Calendar and poster material. But I am not much of the flora fan. :) Dig to immortalize flowers und staff in...
