Home Printing
As a long time user of home inkjets i have to say that Canon some time ago cracked the issue of ink drying on heads. You do have to use them though, Canon recommend at least once a month. The option to leave on standby seems to waste a lot of ink with the auto cleaning cycles. I get that Photogr...

How much resolution do I really need?
I think these days these answer is nothing to do with prints as very few of us go above A2/3 which in film days was a little challenging but with todays sensors it is not . I have completed a sporting gallery of several hundred framed display prints (A4, A3, A2, sizes) over the last year for two ...

How much resolution do I really need?
I don't think so .... Flash is not only about increasing the light levels in order to avoid high ISO. In its creative guise flash is mainly about contrast control ( such as backlit HSS fill-in situations) and balancing out high dynamic range scenes ....softening the quality of light, spreading it, f...

How much resolution do I really need?
Factors that make a difference when enlarging a print; especially to a larger sized print. 1. By far the largest factor is sensor size. I say this by example. I own a Canon with a 50mp sensor. How much resolution do I really need?
This thread has been incredibly interesting and Ronald's ( 50mp CMOS) commentary above articulates the essence of this subject so comprehensivly and clearly; sensor resolution is critical when producing very large pro-standard exhibition / commercial images and prints However, picking up on th...

Protection Filters
My understanding is that it's less to do with modern lenses but more to do with film v digital sensor. UV filters were developed for film because with old film cameras it was often necessary to use a UV filter as film is extremely sensitive to UV light. But digital sensors are much less sensitive...

Protection Filters
Actually, some sensors are more sensitive to U.V. light than films. U.V. filters in front of the sensor are there for "normal" U.V. levels, not for high altitude or snowy scenery levels. Following up my interest in infra red photography, I've searched out spectra for camera hot mirrors. All of them...

Who dominates the DSLR Market ? Some 2015 published indicative info / stats
I did mention in a post some weeks ago that I likely wouldn't buy the K3 II, preferring to wait for the FF or until a third variant of the K3 came out with upgraded AF, dedicated WiFi and maybe the flash reinstalled as I find it useful in some conditions. An articulated rear screen would be most de...

Pentax vs nikon
Reading a lot of internet discussions it would be easy to gain the impression that the only important thing to worry about for your next camera upgrade is how much noise it's sensor will generate at ISO 12,800 and above ! From my point of view there's a lot more to a great camera than that, and I'm ...

Somewhere
Unfortunately there are some people in society that just have to brag about what they possess. Canons and Nikons are no better than Pentax or any other camera for that matter. Remember this....they are still likely to break if dropped off a mountain side, and likely to be rendered useless if dropp...

I feel not all your points are to do with mirrorless versus with mirror John, however. Even taking those points on board I find myself looking at the latest Sony A7 mark2 cameras and thinking wow! I cant wait for the first reviews. I thought I had no intentions to spend the excess required on full frame. But when i give it some thought. For my low light gig photography. It will produce far less noise in images . For studio work the wifi option will be a great plus. Better crops from bigger f...
