Hello Ladies...

Update... Just done new seals on one of the MXs (the one on the left), and gave a bit of a cleaning. It really is a pitty about the brassing. You can't really see it with the bright lights but its got a fair amount of scuffs around the body... Still much better than some stuff I've seen on the b...

Hello Ladies...

Update on the cleaning. I've used cotton q-tips covered with a cheap glasses cleaning wipes and very gently cleared the debris and stains from the mirror. Its not pristine, but its very good now. However, looking from underneath, I now clearly see that some of the spots on the focus screen aren...

LX FC-1 viewfinder problem

Exposure to UV light will generally kill fungus (easier said than done in this country, but maybe take it with you on your next exotic jaunt  ). Of course that won't get rid of the etching left by the infection - for that you'll need to get cleaning and that means getting inside. Can it be ...

LX FC-1 viewfinder problem

The UV idea is floating around there in webworld but I have found a couple of microbiologists who state that you need UV-C to kill fungus, and sadly glass absorbs most UV-C. Taking it apart and cleaning it seems the way to go. Anyone have a diagram of the inside of a FC-1? :D

LX FC-1 viewfinder problem

[quote:3496ace15f="hefty1"](snip)...if I am not mistaken. You are and you aren't mistaken. The fungus itself is microscopic and invisible to the naked eye; the spider-web-like patterns that you *can* see aren't fungus, but rather the secretions of the fungus. UV light will kill the fungus but it ...

Pentax auto 110

I am waiting for the 110 digital conversion kit to go into production :!: Looked into that, conversion was not possible, mainly due to the thickness of a sensor which puts the focus plane out!! Now, a replacement back to the camera, that is possible! A miniature 4/3 camera! I got my past 110 fil...

Pentax MX

The light seals around the back door and the mirror box will almost certainly be corroded (the foam turns into a nasty black gunk which can get on everything). Once again this is an easy DIY job to replace so don't let it put you off. Check out . A lot of people on here swear by his kits, heck I...

Dead MZ-10

I picked up my MZ-10 to play a little with it only to discover that it had died on me. One of the motors had a broken sprocket. So I took the oportunity to take the thing apart to see how it is constructed. I must say that it is one of the most complex constructions I have ever opened up. When I...

recently acqured 1970s Spotmatic lens help needed.

Many thanks Mowog, Hefty1 and Gartmore. This lens may indeed be a rebrand. I will post a picture, if only so those who are curious, can see it. It looks pretty similar to the Takumars I have. I agree that Camera branded lenses are the way to go. The IMAKO lens was included in the bag when I ...

Pentax MX Users

Dust has always been the enemy - because you are printing from a negative they appear as white spots on prints. The art of spotting prints unvolved spotting out the marks with inks. Removing sensor marks is a doddle by comparison!

Congratulations on your purchase! It's a lovely camera to actually use and (as you now know) very lightweight for a SLR. Unfortunately that's partly down to the thinner gauge metal used on the top and bottom plates which, as you've noticed, isn't up to the job of hammering nails in the same way the ...

crop factor, focal lengths, digital and 35mm lens compatibility

Hi This has probably been asked before but the forum search does not seem to actually work so please point me to a page if possible. Is that [search not working] a known issue by the way? I have gone and bought the MZ-6 thanks to Clarky and now I need to work out what lenses I can buy and what...

First roll of film

I was thinking about this today. I bought the Z-1 before I got a DSLR so my initial flurry of images were taken on film. All Ilford HP5 400ASA. It has only just occured to me that I struggle to get the same results from the DSLR because I try to keep the ASA at 100 for best quality pixels. Hence ...

Which flash for MX?

Any manual flash, i.e. one that has a sensor to measure the light refected by the subject. The MX is a fully manual camera with no means of communicating with the flashgun so many modern ones won't work. You'll find ebay awash with suitable bargain examples. If you see something, there are loads ...

Which flash for MX?

Hi Mick, The AF280t is a TTL flashgun and I'm pretty sure the K100d only supports P-TTL. You could, of course, use it in auto mode where the flash's sensor controls light output but it wouldn't be my choice. Unfortunately the two modern Pentax 'guns are quite pricey but I've noted that some peopl...

Pentax ME trouble shooting

The corrosion around the winder contacts is pretty common - I've found that a cotton bud dipped in lens cleaning fluid will usually sort them out.

P50 apeture blonde moment?

The first thing to try is cleaning the camera and lens contacts with a soft cloth. Then reseat the lens and see if the problem has cleared.

S/H MZ bodies and standard zooms

I think the 35-70mm probably struggled with the average camera buyer. If the dealer is offering you a 28-80mm that is cheaper then you're likely to pick that, especially if you're planning to use the thing for holiday photos. I know my SF7 came with the non-SMC Pentax-F 28-80mm, and I always get the...
