Pentax & Samsung join forces to develop DSLR cameras

Make tht a full-frame sensor with the same aspect ratio as a 645 camera, only smaller. Most portrait, magazine page, and other uses involve cropping off the sides of the image. In fact, there are screens (made for Canon cameras) that black out the sides of the frame! Only note that they ar...

Samsung GX-1L and Pentax version

Have you seen the (supposedly) leaked pics of the new Samsung GX-1L? It looks like a rebadged DS/DL with a 18-55mm rebadged as Schneider Kreuznach D-Xenon... Anyone more instructed can give us a background on the Schneider Kreuznach name? And the Xenon name? Do you think this GX-L1 has new (Sa...

DS focusing screen

The screen has arrived now :-) Unfortunately I had to pay VAT and a "customs clearance charge", so the whole thing has worked out to be quite expensive. Last night my wife was giving me grief over the cost of this small piece of plastic ("What is it for anyway?"), particularly as she had to pay t...

Time Exposures using *istD

Maybe someone with more experience might be in a position to either contradict what I'm about to say, or indeed elaborate upon it. I get the same with my *ist DL on long exposure shots and by my understanding it's the camera working on noise reduction (something along the lines of 'taking' a blan...

MZ-S Continued...

You've only got to compare the viewfinders of a Nikon and the Pentax. I haven't seen the viewfinder in the D200, but the D100 viewfinder is APS sized - it's like being in a box (incidentally all the Fuji S DSLRs are the same). All the lenses you mention will work a dream on the *ist-D series (and...

MZ-S Continued...

we only have to look at the D200 That's probably true. However, don't forget that to double resolution you need to quadruple the pixel count!! So a 12Mp sensor has twice the horizontal (and vertical) resolution of a 3Mp sensor. I'll appreciate a little more resolution anyway, and a 10Mp Pentax w...

flash for ds

From Sigma web page: It enables full automatic flash photography by TTL automatic flash exposure control. It now includes S-TTL flash photography for Sigma, 3-D multi-sensor balanced fill flash function and i-TTL flash photography for Nikon, E-TTL II flash photography for Canon, ADI flash photograp...

MZ5N and Tamron 28-300mm f3.5-6.3 XR Di

That sounds like a good tip Simon. This sort of question crops up quite a lot and I think the confusion comes from the general rule that f8 @ 125th sec. has the same EV regardless of lens used. If my understanding is correct, this is true for prime lenses but not for variable aperture zooms ....S...

My god! Things have really changed...

RAW format means . . . just that. The image that is saved to the memory card essentially comes straight from the cameras image sensor. No post processing (EG: Sharpening or compression etc) is performed by the camera. These 'finishing' functions are then performed on your computer.

Double Exposure

here's an example i did with a pentax ds2 and ftz500 flash set to srtobe, two other vivitar 285s with wein peanut slaves,( had photosensors off the vivitars and short wires placed in the sensor connectors to "short circuit" the flashes to get the fastest flash burst possible). I usualy...

Lense Confusion

Have you tried cleaning the electrical contacts? My preferred method is with a soft cloth with about one drop of WD40. Don't overdo the cleaning or touch the rear lens with the cloth and leave it for a while before refitting it to the camera. Finally, try turning the AF coupling of the lens with ...

Why did you buy a Pantax?

I started my foray into photography by chance thanks to an old army mate. My first camera was a Cosina CT-1S, which had a K-mount and was the cheapest camera that a conscripted army boy could afford. i sold off the Cosina, and then I uppgraded to a Chinon CP-7m and my mom got a Canon AE-1 with 28m...

Multi or single point focus?

Multi-point autofocus is one of those things that the engineers do just because they can. It's useless for normal use, the camera has no idiea what you want to focus on! I use the center focus point most of the time, or I select a specific sensor for portraits when I know the eyes will be at one...

MZ30 + TOKINA 500MM MIRROR LENS

Hi Hoofer, and welcome to the forum. If it's a fully manual lens, which I'm fairly certain it is, then it won't have any electrical contacts to tell the camera what aperture it is. As it's a fixed aperture, there is also no finger to tell the camera either. This means that it will work out how ...

MZ-M TTL

For setting exposure - the camera meters through through the lens with the mirror down. The light sensors surround the pentaprism/pentamirror. To quench the flash when sufficient output has been generated - TTL Flash metering is done with the mirror up. The sensor is inside the mirror box and mea...

ME question - black foamy ridge just behind the lens mount ?

I was just cleaning out the inside of my Pentax ME and I noticed some fluff caught on the thin strip of foam that you can see through the lens mount. As I gently picked it out, part of the foam just disintegrated in my fingers. It's only a small section. Will this affect the camera and anyway? A...

How do I use bellows?

All a bellows does is place the lens further from the sensor plane, which means you can focus closer. Because of this, the lens doesn't have to be able to focus, which is why a bellows lens lacks a focus ring. Usually you would mount the lens the same way as normal, and a longer focal length wil...

Fair price for an MZS

£299 - £349 depending on condition, boxed or not, and accessories. I also have a little used MZ-S, but I've decided to keep it for a while yet. Why do you prefer using your Z1 instead of the MZ-S? Thanks for the answer. I thought I would be lucky to get £100 with the way things are now which woul...

Lens(es) advice/recommendations please.

Well, I don't know about the Tamron, but I find the Pentax SMC-FA 24-90 a formidable lens! (That is, if you can still find one!) Resolution is astounding and the colour and contrast are truly "Pentax" ;) If you ever do go digital, then the 24-90 is a very nice lens to use (don't forget ...
