*ist DS on the way
Still waiting for my Pentax... I only purchased the *ist DS with the 18-55 lens. I'm thinking of getting a bit of equipment in France on my holiday (in August), since prices here in Portugal are unrealistic (probably due to the distributor). So, I'm thinking of getting a nice, fast, maybe 512M...

Pentax *ist 35mm Camera
If you have the digital SLR already and no other Pentax lenses the "crippled" mount would not really be a problem. You just need to use lenses with an "A" setting. The advantage would be that the *ist and the *istD(S) all work in the same way. Why complicate matters? But do be aware that not all ...

ZX-M question
Still looking at picking up a modern manual camera, and wondered what yall thought of the ZX-M? It appears to be the only manual film camera sold by pentax presently, (on their web site at least). I guess the camera is called MZ something in the UK?. Took me a while just to decide what I ...

Brand new *istDS owner
I too have recently got an istds , i am fairly happy with the results but know what you mean about darkness , it does require 1/2 normally for me too. The one problem i have got however is the viewfinder , after only two weeks it has started to blur ? , the pictures are fine so no ccd problem , i ha...

full size CCD for SRL digital?
Nobody outside Pentax knows what Pentax's plans are for a full-frame digital in K-mount, but my own view is that it is not going to come any time soon, if ever. People who say otherwise are optimists. Pentax ARE bringing out a camera this year (?) with a larger chip, but it will be a digital ver...

full size CCD for SRL digital?
With such a beast, my expensive 300mm would lose a third of it's magnification. George Well, Nikon and Kodak do, and if you have many wide-angle lenses and like interior design photography or landscapes the full-size sensor makes a lot of sense. A bigger sensor, if the pixels remain the same siz...

full size CCD for SRL digital?
Kodak have stopped making their full-frame camera, I believe, as have Contax, and Nikon's biggest sensor is APS (at 12MP). The only remaining FF camera is Canon, and it's incredibly expensive. I agree that for a wide-angle user, the APS format means investing in another lens or two. As for th...

full size CCD for SRL digital?
I am an owner of a a *ist D who would love to see a full frame sensor as well. Since the *ist D is proportedly no longer in production a 10 or 12 mp full frame sensor would make a tremendous replacement. Don't get me wrong, I love my camera and enjoy the 1.4x gain on the telephoto end. But, the...

full size CCD for SRL digital?
Dave, I didn't think the Sigma was available in Pentax mount. Even Tamron's 11-18 doesn't appear to have a Pentax mount available when you look on their website, but Park Cameras in the UK and BHPhoto in the US both have them listed - but awaiting stock. Pentax, of course, have a 12-24mm coming ou...

full size CCD for SRL digital?
Why do no camera makers make a "full frame" digital sensor that uses the full image circle of the 35mm lenses, but has an aspect ratio closer to 4:3 or 4:5?? MF cameras are designed so the "standard" print sizes don't lose the ends of the frame, like the 3:2 of 35mm or APS-C. It all started wh...

Pentax *IST film
On the digital cameras, the workaround is to update the firmware, then you push a lever and the M lenses work just like they do on the old LX, MX, etc cameras. I think it's stupid to leave out the mechanical actuator which would make the M lenses work on newer cameras, but perhaps they are hoping t...

Pentax *IST film
I use my old M lenses on the D just like I do on the MX. I only have one of the DFA or whatever lenses, and it won't cover the full frame of the film so what do I care? I only got it because the sensor on the D is smaller than the film frame, so to get a wide angle of view I need a shorter len...

35mm film lens on istDS
The viewfinder of the *st D, at leaast, is bright anc clear, and shows what the image will be on the sensor. Coverage is pretty close to total, about 95%. So you'll see a smaller piece of the image circle through the DSLR viewfinder, because you'll get a smaller piece of the image circle on the ...

35mm film lens on istDS
It's an SLR so WYSIWYG - you see through the viewfinder what the sensor 'sees', just like your MZ5n. It is the effective focal length that changes ie. your FA50mm will provide the same angle of view on *ist DSLR as a 75mm lens would on an MZ5n.

*ist DL vs. *ist DS2
That would make sense, George. I was under the impression, from a number of recent posts, that people were having trouble finding the D in stock but I suppose the DS and DL are more 'mainstream' and therefore more readily available. Can't be long before the new 'D' is available though - 35mm siz...

*ist DL vs. *ist DS2
For serious photography, the D is worth seeking out. For one, it uses the standrd Compact Flash cards that all the professional gear uses, it has the two wheels to control the camera, and in general is the professional-level model. If it's selling for the same price as the soccer-mom models, it's ...

Mysterious spots
There are two main reasons for "spots" on photos: 1. Very small bright spots are failed pixels, only noticeable against a dark background, and 2. Much larger greyish spots are caused by dirt/dust on the sensor, which can usually be blown off, but might ocassionally require wiping or cleaning...

Once used a blower to clean sensor, and ended up with black snowstorm pics - didn't think they would catch on tho' :? Andy

Mysterious spots
I know several friends who have had to clean their CCDs, usually using some sort of wipe. Personally, after almost a year, I have found no dust spots at all, and as long as that holds true i won't be thinking about sensor cleaning. Like lens cleaning, only do it if you have to.

Pentax & Samsung join forces to develop DSLR cameras
Let's hope they develop a camera with FULL-FRAME sensor and at least 1/250th sec flash synch. then I might consider getting digital.
