Sensor Cleaning
Arctic Butterfly here and never had anything it can't get rid of. Takes a few seconds and does not blow stuff everywhere.

Sensor Cleaning
Cheers for all your comments, some really good advice there as usual. I've now started (today) to carry a large clear polythene bag around, and change the lenses in that to try and minimise dust. Never used a Rocket Blower, but like the look of the Arctic Butterfly, Warehouse Express are advertising...

Sensor Cleaning
I just have the small Arctic Butterfly designed for APS-C without interchangeable heads. I use my Metz 58 AF-1 in modelling mode off the camera to check for sensor dust (really shows it up if there is any). Plastic bag is way OTT. I swap lenses everywhere and Don't really worry about it. The back of...

Samsung and Pentax. New,
I agree with you on this one, just because others bring out new models like Olympus, the new 620 will be out soon and looks like a larger sensor mod, when they upgraded the 510 to the 520 the price of the older ones dropped like a stone, and the 500's are now rock bottom prices. The most expensive ...

should shake reduction on(mono pod)
im lost with all this conversion stuff, all i know is its not made specifically for a small sensor, so the focal length has to be x1.5 it confuses me because on the lens it states 170mm up to 500mm and on the exif it says 35mm=750mm, but if the lens was made for a film camera why doesn't it say on ...

should shake reduction on(mono pod)
500mm is a focal lenght and a focal lenght is a measure of an optical system of how strongly it converges (focuses) or diverges (diffuses) light. A system with a shorter focal length has greater optical power than one with a long focal length. It doesn't matter on what camera it is, it stays 500mm ...

should shake reduction on(mono pod)
cheers guys, anvh i understand that a 170-500mm lens will always be that, but because of the crop factor of the sensor 1.5x,it makes it a 255mm-750mm,,:oops: The cropped 1.5x view produces a 600 mm effective view (when compared to a full frame camera). Just as "zooming in" is a result of...

should shake reduction on(mono pod)
Only the angle/field of view is equivalent to 750mm on a full frame camera at 500mm on your DSLR, anything else like DOF for example stays 500mm. It isn't really like zooming because with zooming you change the DOF as well because you're really change the focal length of the lens. Even the thin...

Buying pentax in London
SRS are very good and if you're flying into Heathrow they are "on the way" into town. Tottenham Court Road in London is full of electronics and camera shops and is also a good bet. Most will be prepared to match other stores prices but may not offer unless you ask! Don't be afraid to haggle a bit...

Hi John, It really looks like Pentax wants to "be interesting" as per the new company logo, and will produce an EVIL (electronic viewfinder) highly specd camera... to follow the K20. I'm not taking this as gospel, but according to interview with Gabrielle Remmers (Marketing bod) Pentax are not ...

Interesting little topic, and as somebody who moved from Pentax to Nikon last year, I'll give my two pence worth! I moved from a K10d/K20d combo to a D200, and now have a D90/D300 combo... I'll limit my comparison between the K20d/D300 though. I'll use MattMatic's list as a starter!! ...

What do you think? I think you should wait until summer 2010, and get a K20D in the meantime to see what it's like for yourself (in particular, to see whether you like the image quality and noise characterstics from the different sensor). It may not be a major upgrade, but it doesn't cost a major am...

Samsung to get closer to Pentax.
You can tilt any camera through 45deg so the pixels are in a diamond pattern, but you don't finish up with more pixels To be fair, that is not what the Fuji sensor is about. Each of 6 million photosites has two pixels, one to read low light and one to read high light levels. This makes your 12MP. Th...

PENTAX Service, Good or Bad POLL
They (Pentax France) had my K100D Super for nearly 2 weeks last summer. They replaced the sensor (it had weird pixels which were particularly visible on the high ISO photos) and gave the camera a clean. They gave it back with an extra 3-week warranty. So I find the service highly satisfactory, very ...

any electronics boffins out there?
I would like to buy (or butcher) a light sensitive diode and adjustable micro timer to close a circuit and trigger my Camera. I need to capture a falling object passing the slight sensor and delay closing the circuit until the object is in view (microseconds). Can you suggest a component list? The...
