K3 for scanning B&W film

There are some good tutorials on Youtube. This one's very good, mainly because it shows you how to use an extension tube on a Pentax bellows to get over the crop sensor problem. i.e. the bellows are made for FF copying. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh8vJCvsZtY&list=TLMR76YN0Pw3Y --

LX vs ME super vs KX vs K2

Well, I can speak to this! I have (God help me!) three LXs, 3 ME Supers, 1 KX and 3 MXs! Do understand that not all are working! Okay. For openers all these cameras have incredible view finders. They are bright, big, clear. Compared with current DSLRs its like looking through a picture windo...

LX vs ME super vs KX vs K2

I'm a bit late to this thread but I've got and used most of the options mentioned above. My take on the cameras is below (note: this is based on on my experience of buying up to 40yr old cameras on ebay - condition varies enormously): LX: The ultimate option in my view, expensive and may require ...

Film - The great teacher

If you're going to through the term teaching in the mix, then I don't know that film is the best option. You don't get that instant feedback of your settings, so there's a huge delay between see what I did there and see what I got as a result. Personally I focus on image creation. There's a bun...

Film - The great teacher

Whether it's digital or film, composition, lighting and exposure, aperture, shutter speed, focus point etc are all required to achieve the final image. As mentioned above, switching between film and digital doesn't remove the need for these aspects of photography. I don't know, as I get older I ...

Slide film and ND grads

Bear in mind that it is digitally based, and it's central method is based around the DR of a digital sensor, so around 10 stops. However, there's no reason that you couldn't make mental adjustments for the latitude aspects and specific rated DR for any film.

Thought some of you film lovers might like to see this......

Now, if only Pentax could produce a camera with those looks (and size) nd the Sony APS-C sensor, they could out-retro the Nikon Df with much more fanfare

Epson v370 scanner. Fine for rank amature usage?

I think there has to be a compromise somewhere. The Plustek style just seems to have a design issue with cleaning if dust gets in. This happened to mine. It's not an enormous amount of money and would be good enough as it would just be used for viewing on the laptops. Can alwys get better scans o...

Pentax Zoom 280-p

Could the 'new' battery you've inserted be 'stale'? (Perhaps old stock or gone bad during storage.) Also check the battery contacts, try cleaning them and the battery itself with a rubber.

Annoying dust in MX viewfinder

I once cleaned a very dirty focussing screen of a Nikon FE2, and had success with soaking the screen for some hours in "Green Clean" Optic Liquid, and afterwards holding the screen under lukewarm water to rinse the screen of Optical Fluid and debris. The screen was left to air dry before re-installi...
