I am fed up with everyone telling me digital is convenient !

Steve (with tongue in cheek). Can't argue with your logic - if every picture you take is technically and compositionally perfect. If it's not, you won't know at the point of exposure - so if it's the only day that Concord lands on your high street with David Beckham on board with Kylie you'll...

I am fed up with everyone telling me digital is convenient !

Hi again, Thought this might ensure some discussion!! The ONLY reason I use digital is for internet/ web use, otherwise I would not bother. I actually do not buy this argument that digital lets you assess images at the point of taking them. I use a Pentax 1stD, which I assume is a good camera....

I am fed up with everyone telling me digital is convenient !

Interesting, reading the differing opinions about the “convenience” of digital vs. film. Unfortunately this topic has taken on the familiar film vs. digital go around with some statements that put film at some lofty plane above the lowly digital image. As George would say, "rubbish" :) With the...

I am fed up with everyone telling me digital is convenient !

Hi, Having revisited this thread, I believe many have missed the point of Bretbysteve's original post and indeed my reply. The problem is that the degree of "convenience" is far more dependant on lifestyle than it is on equipment. I fully agree that there are many advantages of digital and I freque...

I am fed up with everyone telling me digital is convenient !

Here here, Kim :) It's a case of horses for courses, as usual. I don't use my SLR every day, nor am I looking for absolute perfection when I do. I can't see the finished result through a little window on the back of the LX, but I trust both the camera and my ability/experience to get things r...

I am fed up with everyone telling me digital is convenient !

Kim, Let's just take a close look at what Bretbysteve said.... "........sorry, but I am on my soapbox." Translation, he's having a rant. "I am utterley amazed at how many people seem to think digital is more convenient than film......" Note: not "how many people are telling me" as the tit...

I am fed up with everyone telling me digital is convenient !

George, Sorry but I am going to get on my soapbox (Translation, I am going to have a rant.) I am going to go back to the title of this thread and explain why "I am fed up with everyone telling me digital is convenient !" A question which I attempted to explain in my last post. Along wit...

I am fed up with everyone telling me digital is convenient !

George, I do not know Bret and certainly don't know what was in his mind or what his intentions were in starting this thread. However, before I admit to being a naughty boy and making things up or to being paranoid, let's have a look at what I have said in context. This thread may have been st...

I am fed up with everyone telling me digital is convenient !

I've never agreed with the term learning disabled. me like my mac is very good at what it does, but we're not compatible with 90% of the programs out there. I like to think our education system was teaching disabled back then when it came to people like me. Things have improved much since then. My t...

I am fed up with everyone telling me digital is convenient !

......BLIMEY !!!!! I thought this thread was buried...I do like controversy... George... Kim ... :D Kimbo... I am a former professional studio photographer, college trained, with 34 years photography behind me and I have not yet seen any large digital display print to ...

I am fed up with everyone telling me digital is convenient !

Good grief, he's back! So film beats digital when you print 6ft by 4ft? I must admit, that's a real clincher in the anti-digital argument. A body-blow! I'd better throw out all those embarassingly inferior 6'x4's. How come, Steve, that your sister, whose brother is a college-trained profess...

I am fed up with everyone telling me digital is convenient !

Hi George, My sister is very well and has seen my photos many times. She likes them and also thinks they are very good. However If you read my posting properly you will see it was my sister IN LAW who paid lots of money for inferior goods. I have only recently got to know her (she lives a lon...

I am fed up with everyone telling me digital is convenient !

:D ..........and I thought it was me that came up with the naff analogies 8) True dinosaurs (the extinct ones) were hardly defeated by mammals, T-Rex versus hamster - I've got an inkling which one might win! Mammals and in particular humans (supposedly the ultimate mammal) have only existed for...

I am fed up with everyone telling me digital is convenient !

In saying that digital is a mature technology, I meant that we can't expect massive improvements in future, just incremental ones. Have Contax produced a digital back, too? Certainly Leica has, but it doesn't represent new technology. Just its application to a film body. G

I am fed up with everyone telling me digital is convenient !

As I drove home last night, I heard on the radio that Patrick Lichfield had become seriously ill and taken into hospital. Sadly, he has now died. It did, however, remind me of something which is pertinent to this thread. A couple of years ago, there was a documentary on the TV about him. I think ...

commercial prints

For those that use film. Have you noticed any difference in print quality recently. I have recently had some prints back and the colours where rubbish. Could not handel the graduation in the sky just after sunset. What do they use these to print these days. When looking closely looks pixilated and ...

commercial prints

You're dead right. I got three sets of 36 prints back from Jessops on Friday and they are awful. The colour has a greenish tint to it and the pictures are grainy and lack detail across the entire focal range. Anyone would think I took them with a 35mm throwaway, in fact similar ones my friend took w...

Digital Camera to Accept M42 Lenses?

Newbie here with the dumb quetion of the day. I have managed to acquire a nice collection of Takumar and SMC screw mount lenses along with some beautiful Spotmatic bodies. With the inevitable reduction in the availability of 35MM film/prints/processing etc, will there be a future for my lenses...

Digital Camera to Accept M42 Lenses?

If it wasn't for the overhang, which makes operating the auto/manual switch less easy than it might be, using a screw-mount lens is possibly even easier than using an M or K lens. 1 Select Av mode 2 Select aperture (on the lens!) 3 Switch to Auto (on the lens) 4 Compose and focus 5 Switc...

Digital Camera to Accept M42 Lenses?

I think I would just open the lens using the aperture ring to focus, and then close it again, rather than using the A/M switch.
