My MZ-7 has had a thrombi

Just thinking this through further, when you loaded the new film did it advance to frame 1 automatically? Presumably the 'lock up' occurred when you pressed the shutter button? Is anything showing on the top LCD? Have you tried taking the batteries out for a while and then putting them ba...

My MZ-7 has had a thrombi

Hi to JohnX & Peter. Thank you both for your replies,it looks very like I have been had !!!!!!!!!!!!! The more that I think about the whole process of buying the camera the more I can see that it probably had an intermittent fault that might have cleared by leaving it "resting" and then I come alo...

My MZ-7 has had a thrombi

The motor that drives everything on most MZ/ZX cameras has a nylon gear that cracks, leaving you dead in the water. The improved replacement motor incorporates a brass gear. Once replaced these cameras are far more reliable, however I'm not sure the part is still available. Further the cost of...

My MZ-7 has had a thrombi

Hi Chris. Thank you for your input. I don't know what sort of money, albeit you are dealing in the USA $ and not £ sterling, that an MZ-7 is fetching with either a 28-80 or a 35-80 lens over there where you are based BUT here in the UK they are going for between £20.00 and as high as £100.00 and sel...

My MZ-7 has had a thrombi

When it comes to film cameras and the cost of repair or service ('CLA') it really depends on your criteria. If cost / value for money / getting your investment back is your main concern, then you are out of luck with all but rare or expensive models. If having a working, reliable body is your ma...

My MZ-7 has had a thrombi

My MZ-M suffered a similar problem when I fired it with very flat AA batteries. The mirror locked up and the film advance stopped mid-wind (the shutter was obviously in mid-cycle when I opened the back). Pulling the mirror down resulted in it springing back up. With fresh batteries I could get it to...

K3 for scanning B&W film

This is interesting, I like the quality you have achieved. I've got hundreds, thousands even, colour slides languishing in drawers. What's the set up you use, do you use a slide/negative copier attached to the camera? David PPG: http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/artists/davidtrout I did a thread o...

Fab Four

How is George reviewing his image on the back screen:shock: Old school analogue chimping: although I'm not sure if the SV supported it. Seriously, Kodak made an analogue chimping camera, the APS film Advantix Preview: which had a digital display of the last shot so you could decide whether yo...

Film processing service

I use the Darkroom UK. Expensive, but excellent quality especially for Ektar which is a fussy film. As to airports, UK ones will not hand check film. I have, however, never had a fogged film. When I went round the world a couple of years back, I took to buying film along the way and mailing it...

LX vs ME super vs KX vs K2

Thank you! Nice to see some old familiar faces are still here. I am waiting to see who buys a "full-frame" camera, and whether anybody returns to the fold. I am also glad I didn't sell much of my old glass. Exciting times. Welcome back George. I'll be buying a "full frame" Pentax as and...

LX vs ME super vs KX vs K2

Well, I can speak to this! I have (God help me!) three LXs, 3 ME Supers, 1 KX and 3 MXs! Do understand that not all are working! Okay. For openers all these cameras have incredible view finders. They are bright, big, clear. Compared with current DSLRs its like looking through a picture windo...

LX vs ME super vs KX vs K2

Basically, You wont find a bad Manual focus Pentax. There are some with greater following than others and that is reflected in the price, but there isn't a bad one. The KX, KR and K1000 were all a bit bigger than the M range but some love them. The MX Is manual exposure only. ME, MG auto o...

I have owned LX, K2, K2DMD, KX, KM, MX, ME, ME Super, ME-F and P3n Pentax K manual focus bodies. My favorite by far has always been the Pentax KX. Chris

LX vs ME super vs KX vs K2

may i just throw a spaner in the works and say the mef which a lot of people forget about Yes indeed. The MEF is sort of like a "Super 'ME Super'" -- it has the same controls, plus some additional ones that allow for "primitive AF" with one lens, the AF 35-70/2.8. However, with any other MF lens (...

LX vs ME super vs KX vs K2

I own a fully-functioning Pentax ME-F. I have never been interested in the dedicated AF lens. I bought it for focus confirmation with manual focus lenses, which is indeed quite useful. Alas the ME-F does not have depth-of-field preview, so I seldom use it. Chris
