Would this be the silver FA lens? So the F lens (usually in black) 35-80mm is a better bet?

i.e. from 24mm upwards, vignetting is obvious in the viewfinder at shorter focal lengths.
Totally agree - I sometimes stick the same lens onto my P5, and the vignetting has gone before I get to 28mm. And of course, 24-55 is still a useful range. I was surprised by the number of times I was actually working at 52-53 mm. There was an old adage about the cheapest zoom you could get being two steps forward or back. Of course, if I want very wide angle, I have a 17mm Tamron A-2.I picked up an MZ6 last year and found that under certain conditions it can be used with the 18-55 (Mk1) kit lens.

The "old" 35-70 F series lens is useful on the P5 - if you can live with the fact that it automatically goes to Program mode.
But this is what we tell everyone - any Pentax digital can use any Pentax lens. Shhhh - whisper it - some lenses have limits, and you have to work within those limits.

AFAIK they're the same lens, Pentax simply updated the outer casing. Mine's the black one. It's soft and doesn't reproduce colours particularly well. Dangermouse wrote:

You can use other modes with that F 35-70mm on older film bodies, just press the button on the aperture ring and turn it. The lens will then operate like an M series.

I suppose using a spare 18-55 at the 24mm plus end would work ok as a stop gap measure. Sometimes my eyes get sore from lack of sleep and autofocus is so useful (I have a Nikon F70 but would like to be able to use a Pentax for Ektar etc)

There are a few Pentax FA 28-80mm lenses about which would do the trick, have a look at this. I bought one of those at about the same time as my K-m and for a few weeks it was my only other AF lens. There are sharper lenses about but it was perfectly acceptable for colour rendition and general performance, and you won't find yourself cursing the softness.
Alternatively the new DA 35mm f2.4 is full frame compatible if you fancy buying one...

I don't have any colour problems with my 35-80, mind, I do shoot B&W!
I find both it and the 28-80 lenses I have work well on both film and digital.

What is the difference between MZ5 and MZ-5n? why nobody mentioned them. MZ-6 and 3 should be much more expensive than them.

The "n" model has a depth of field preview and an exposure lock, otherwise they're identical. The 5's would get my vote as favourite MZ series body - great bang-for-buck.

I got carried away and have won an MZ7 with the 35-80 mm kit lens and a Pentax AF400 ftz flash.................
I presume this flash is ok and can be used on my Super A as well? Might be possible to use it on the K200D in manual mode too....
This forum is expensive!!

You should be able to use it on the Super A as that supports TTL flash, I don't have an AF400FTZ to try though. I keep meaning to get mine out again and try it with the AF280T.
