very positive review of the MX-1 here

Back on topic please, this isn't a thread about LX7 prices. :)

very positive review of the MX-1 here

I don't want to ask him anything. Your opinion was that his review was sensible without asking him. I say his conclusion is disingenuous without asking him. I regard my opinion as valid as yours. I woudn't dream of asking you to go and justify your opinion and report back, so I am not going to. ...

very positive review of the MX-1 here

But, within reason, most serious photographers will be swayed, I suspect, more by quality of output than ease of handling. From a personal standpoint I'd have to disagree strongly with this. I was in John Lewis in Cheadle recently and had a play around with a few cameras (was actually buying a DA...

110 lenses

Sceptical as I am of home testing lenses, here goes. As John says the 110 lenses have no diaphragm since this was controlled within the camera mechanism so all shots are fully open at f2.8; as screwdriver notes the 50mm is noticeably better. All shots on a very heavy tripod and the sharpest focus...

110 lenses

To answer my own question above - No! Now have the 50mm, the 70mm adapter and Lensbaby aperture disks. Tried out at f4 in the sun and am getting a lot of PF especially with the 70mm. Also struggling with focusing handeheld, can't see the focus peaking in the sunlight. Results very average so far. I...

Pentax Q - yet another user review!

How are people finding staring at a screen instead of a viewfinder? My eyesight is getting a bit long so I never use the LV on the K5. Does this mean I would hate the dedicated Live View on these cameras? I think that will be a very individual thing, but I am now in my sixtieth year with 'iffy' eye...

Pentax Q - yet another user review!

I've taken the plunge and gone for the K-01 with 40mm pancake. The lens doubles up on focal lengths I have but it will 'make' the 01 I think, and by all accounts is an exceptional lens and great value. Back to the OP, I'm sure I'll get a Q soon enough. I keep hearing good stuff - mainly that the...

Pentax Q - yet another user review!

Uh oh, too late, K-01 should be arriving today. Why am I excited? it's just my K5 with stuff missing right? I'll be using it to back up my K5 at events without needing a sherpa, and for stuffing in my coat pocket on walks. Still peering over the wall at the Q tho :)

K01 Or Q?

Discontinued is a great time to get a bargain. that's why I purchased one and well chuffed I did never known a mirrorless format to focus so fast; love it.

K01 Or Q?

Personally haven't tried the Q, but I do own the K-01 and think after it's first firmware was released it became a super camera. I can use any lens and it DOES take great snaps. Personally I like the way it looks and feels, but hey I like different... Great camera with it's 40mm xs 2.8 lens combo. ...

K-01 and 40mm first impressions...

Well, it arrived :) and due to it's amazing low price at the moment, I thought some people might be interested in some fresh opinions now the hype has subsided. I'm happy with the size; that will easily sit in my coat pocket. The finger grip is silly - unnecessarily small even with the pancake len...

K-01 and 40mm first impressions...

Took it out to a dance last night (in my jumper pocket). Venue was extremely dark but the K-01 set to manual and auto ISO (thanks George :) ) and focus peaking, was an absolute gem! I used the on-board flash on -2 and it lit the whole 30m room easily. Standing on a table with the camera at arm's l...

K-01 and 40mm first impressions...

Took it to Cornwall hoping to have a handy pocket camera, but I couldn't bare to be without my lenses, so it went in the bag anyway  The screen was hopeless in bright daylight, properly annoying and disabling. Need to look for one of those screen viewfinder attachments. Difficulty holding it...

A bit of a shock

Hi Andrew I also prefer a view finder, but as the screen is of the tilting variety, it does provide extra facilities to offset the loss. But it has not been as much of a problem as I expected, it does brighten up when you focus a shot, I don’t know if that is standard on better cameras. I will ...

Pentax Q close focus issue

Just updated it to firmware v1.12 and thought I'd try some close focus shots with the standard 01 prime lens. With the camera in manual focus mode I can shoot images reasonably close (5 inches) and have them in focus. But in auto focus mode, the camera fails to focus at that distance - you can see ...
