Q over quality compact?

I also picked up a Q recently and haven't regretted it at all - even though it was an impulse buy. After handling one at SRS when collecting a K-mount lens I just couldn't resist the charms of the Q. I don't think I've had more fun with a camera - it just makes you want to take photos (and as a resu...

Q over quality compact?

I was going to ask the same, Dave. I know they were available for under £300 a while back, but can't find anything close to that now. Q and 5-15mm is still available for £199 at SRS. If I find anything better I'll let you know.

Q over quality compact?

Thanks - I e-mailed Chris a few hours back, but not until after office hours. He is usually very helpful. Will be in Colombo again in March, but just a short visit this time :( Can't find any reviews of the 15-45mm yet - it would be nice to have.

Q over quality compact?

There was a post from someone representing Pentax a while back but she was met with so much hostility we haven't seen her return

Q over quality compact?

Yes, i remember. She was from an agency working for Pentax. If I recall correctly she said she would be back...... But the fact that someone representing Pentax got negative comments is no a reason to disappear, on the contrary! And this Forum is linked on the Pentax UK site, so they should kno...

Q over quality compact?

There's a difference between raising issues and downright hosility, and hostility is enough to switch anybody off a forum, along with the reasonable suggestions and comments that could get drowned out. So back to the plot please, the thread was about the Q! :?

Q over quality compact?

Nobody is trying to sell you anything Charlotte, you're free to come and go as you wish, and talking about photography would be excellent. Now please get back to the subject guys...

Live view zoom on Q

Yes I think so. From memory, find 'focus settings' in the menu (first page I think), then select that menu option and you will have a further option of 'x2' and 'x4' or something like that. If you select one of them (say 'x4'), then when you now turn the manual focus ring on the lens, the live view ...

Pentax Q digital zoom

Just wondering if anyone on the forum who uses K mount lenses on their Q via an adapter knows how to activate the digital zoom. With a standard Q lens it can automatically digitally zoom in to help manual focusing the moment you turn the focus ring. Obviously with communications severed as they ...

Pentax Q digital zoom

In the Menu under MF, do you have focus assist selected? Just turned it off on mine, and as you'd expect the OK button did nothing. Turned it back on to 4x and lo and behold it works again

Pentax Q digital zoom

Ah! My mistake! The Q had gone back to factory settings and I forgot these weren't default settings! Cheers!

Any Q Fisheye shots to share?

I find it a very difficult lens to use. It focuses sharply enough on screen (manual focus onloy) but I've not quite got to terms with being able to guarantee a result yet. Here's one reasonable example:

Any Q Fisheye shots to share?

Thanks for comments. Yes, Barrie it is one of the Toy lenses but I did read some positive comments about it on the US forum. John, thanks for sharing. Are your concerns around focus/sharpness or composition and choice of subject

Any Q Fisheye shots to share?

Like John I find it surprisingly tricky to focus at anything over 30cm, I would have thought the depth of field would have been so great no focussing would be necessary at all. I intend to do some experiments and work out the hyper focal distance. It is one of the Toy lenses, plastic mount, fixed...

K-01 "WTF?!"

Just got back from my first shoot with the K-01, and my reaction ALL night was a combination of "wtf?" and "ARRRRGHHHH :@" Constant failure to engage the AF assist beam; live view blacking out during focussing (and ONLY during focussing - another wtf moment), ridiculously weird white balance issu...

K-01 "WTF?!"

If they did, I'm sure the first thing they would think of doing would be to send it back for a replacement. Clearly they are not supposed to work like that, so the answer is clear. Before you do though, perhaps a reset to defaults and a check that the lens and body mount contacts are clean. It's ...

Long Range Birding setup

Here's how it works Bob Put the whole thing together Put the Q on a stable platform (e.g. tripod) Using the LCD screen on the camera and 400mm lens attached, focus on something at about the distance you would be using it for birding. Make sure it is in the centre of the screen. I used a fro...

Long Range Birding setup

Interesting. Im just about getting to grips with my Q + DA*300mm set up. Still waiting for a sunny day and time to visit a couple of places that it will work well. One is Oare Marshes in Kent where the waders sit out, but too far away for a conventional set up. I had a go yesterday there on a ...
