K01 Or Q?

You'll need a couple of spare battery's for it as they don't last long. I'm looking forward to getting a K mount adapter for it so I can have a play with the 320mm on it

Have a look in my portfolio Mate, The Tree and Clive are both taken with the Q. The tree impressed me the most, its a thing I've shot hundreds of times so I know it well and the Q gave a good account of its self. Clive was a shot to see how it did in lowlightish situations, and to see how AWB did. And again it did its self proud on both counts.
Apart from the battery life I cant fault it Mate, Its a nice thing in the hand an IQ is more than good enough.

The Q has surprised me, I expected it to be good, but not THIS good

Personally haven't tried the Q, but I do own the K-01 and think after it's first firmware was released it became a super camera. I can use any lens and it DOES take great snaps. Personally I like the way it looks and feels, but hey I like different...
Great camera with it's 40mm xs 2.8 lens combo.
For me the focus peaking and lens compatibility make it a great addition to a DSLR setup. And discontinued means cheap. I can buy one here for $300.
I have also put it through some tough use and it holds up really well.
I think when this camera came out, the reviewers were so offended by the way it looks, that the actual performance of the camera was not looked at seriously, I think it's was hampered because of the clouded aesthetic reception it got. It may not appeal to every one in the looks department, but is is without a doubt a great camera.

The x10 is great, have you considered the Fuji x100? its just superb
and now the x100s is out you can get one for a bargain price
I know I know its not a Pentax but I have one which I use when I dont want to lug the K5 and lenses around and it is truly a m a z i n g!

Just had a look at price of adaptor( shocked) is it worth spending on pentax one or much cheaper Chinese one

The Pentax Q adapter controls the aperture and has a built in shutter, important for moving subjects. Having said that, I bought a Chinese one for £46 and it works very well, but isn't as sophisticated. I wanted to see if it was worth buying a full priced adapter by trying out some lenses first.

My conclusion is it could be, depending on how much it was going to be used and for what purpose. I won't be at the moment, but might later. Other priorities just now.

I tend to think the main attraction for owning one of these, Q or K-01 must be the physical size. Much smaller than K5 etc., and in the right hands can turn out satifactory images. Price wise they are not a cheap alternative if you require the "proper" adapter for the Q, lenses are fairly limited otherwise, and if using say an 18-135mm on either Q or K-01 is there any real gain from using a full size "K-?" camera. In my case I could see the novelty wearing off quite quickly so am resisting buying one. If there was anywhere to try before buying I may have my mind change.

The K-01 uses K mount lenses as standard, which is its advantage. The only thing missing compared to a DSLR is the pentaprism finder. It's not a miniature camera in any respect, but it has its place and I would find one quite useful.

The Q is a miniature and its own lenses are rather good. The adapters do increase the potential and offer all sorts of ideas for experimentation, but essentially it's a very versatile and very tiny system camera.

My feeling is, from my own experience and reading other users posts here, that the Q really wins the hearts of users. All of us have been quite amazed by its performance and adaptability. Long lens photography has never been much of an interest of mine but I have bought the Pentax 110-Q and Pentax K(A)-Q adapters; the latter offering aperture control at £8.60 including postage all the way from China.

I paid £140 for mine with body, battery and lens and nothing more. An ineffective charger and battery for £6.50 on eBay proved a waste of time but buying a broken Optio for £0.99 gave me the genuine articles.


Using a camera with the optional optical viewfinder is a very different photographic experience from a DSLR.
